We were delighted with our day tour around the monasteries of Meteora with Vagellis. Not only were we able to visit the active monasteries but also some locations which were off the main tours. Vagellis grew up in Kalambaka and took great pride in making sure we had a perfect day. And when we managed to leave our phone in his immaculate car, he took the trouble to go a long way out of his way to bring it back. We were also delighted with the service we got from the staff at the tour office. All in all, a very happy and memorable day with a great company and a fabulous guide. Thanks to Visit Meteora Team and our wonderful guide Vaggelis, we could visit the six monasteries and enjoy the best viewpoints of Meteora. He explain to us all kind of information about the monks and the temples, and show us how the hermits lived centuries ago. Vaggelis was very kind in every moment. When we were about to finish the six hours trip, we haven't already visit the last monastery, and he said: "Don't worry, take your time, it doesn't matter if we finish late". It was a nice gesture and we're very grateful for that. I think the Private Tour is the best way to visit the monasteries and the amazing landscapes of Meteora. I booked their train to train Meteora excursion. I did the train transfer booking by myself online. They were on time expecting me at the train station in Kalambaka. Time management from them was perfect. We were able to enter 2 of the monasteries, visit 2 more for pictures and 3 other scenic view points. The driver Kostas, was very helpful and even took pictures of the tour participants, he always offered. Maria was our tour guide, she was very knowledgeable and kind. We wanted to buy some food before our train ride back and she pointed out places close to the train station for us and we were able to buy hot food before departing.Meteora is a stunning place and we booked a private tour to make the most of the area…. I cannot fault the company or the driver who was excellent and knowledgeable but In hindsight I probably would not have booked the private tour but would have done the sunset tour followed by the morning tour...
Meteora is a stunning place and we booked a private tour to make the most of the area…. I cannot fault the company or the driver who was excellent and knowledgeable but In hindsight I probably would not have booked the private tour but would have done the sunset tour followed by the morning tour. The reason being is that we did the sunset tour the day before on a small coach with about 20 other people, the guide was amazing, as was the driver… We were really looking forward to the private tour but disappointed that the guide only dropped us off at the sites, I thought he would come into the monasteries with us… We also kept on coming across the same people who we met on the sunset tour who were doing the morning tour. The tour was meant to be 6 hours but we finished in under 5. Like I say, as a tour it gets five stars but the morning tour I think would have been better value for money…This is the second time I’ve booked a tour with Visit Meteora. They are very responsive, accommodating, helpful, and friendly. This is the second time I’ve booked a tour with Visit Meteora. They are very responsive, accommodating, helpful, and friendly. My friends and I booked a private tour with them with pick up in Athens, transport to Meteora, they waited for us while we paraglided with another company, took us to lunch, took us on a sunset tour, then drove us to the Athens airport to catch our flight home. The company allowed us to design our own day and were extremely flexible. Our driver Andreas was wonderful! We loved talking to him and he even helped make sure one of our travelers with dietary restrictions was well fed at the restaurant for lunch. Everything about our private tour with Visit Meteora was perfect and I could not recommend more!
