This was to be a different Christmas Day - and it was - 8 people on a small boat heading off down the fyord in the dark at nine in the morning - coffee to hand and sat round the cabin table everyone introduced themselves - then it was out on deck in either survival suits or with life vests in the freezing cold to enjoy the sites as we cruised along - the whales were not to be seen , but bird life and the snow on either side of the fyord bank made up for it - we had two stops to do some fishing and caught a number of cod that were for the soup pot on board and when added to the veg and potatoes and cream made a wonderful soup that was very welcome after four hours as we cruised back to Tromso - a great 6 hour trip and worth all of the Euro 200 per head even with out the whales - the crew were very nice , the boat small and much better than the larger craft - a more private operation well run with safety always to the fore. Two members of our party were very apprehensive as the night before we had gone on a Northern Lights Chase (with another tour operator) and they did not want to face the same cold weather. Two members of our party were very apprehensive as the night before we had gone on a Northern Lights Chase (with another tour operator) and they did not want to face the same cold weather. Having spoken to Alice a number of times she made provision of extra gloves, woolly hats, blankets and scarves for the whole group and not just the 2 members. We did not get to see any whales but saw others fishing on our catamaran "The Golden Eagle" and we kept going out in our winter suits, hats & scarves and enjoyed the scenery. The Skipper "David" made us fresh veg soup and freshly caught cod soup plus there was plenty of tea & coffee and biscuits to keep us all happy. All in all we had a very enjoyable outing and would have no hesitation in doing it againI booked on the whale safari for my birthday and we went on the Duen II sail boat. I booked on the whale safari for my birthday and we went on the Duen II sail boat. We had a brilliant time, the scenery is amazing! Sadly we did not see any whales but were able to go fishing instead, and eat a freshly prepared fish soup (which was delicious) for our lunch whilst on board. They also gave us tea and coffee to keep us warm outside, and prosecco with the meal as it was my birthday! The warm winter suits provided keep you warm enough to stay out on deck for much of the trip, and the inside area is perfect for warming up. Alice has been excellent at answering my questions and planning the trip before hand via email. Overall a wonderful experience that I would definitely recommend. What an amazing overnight trip to see the whale playground. What an amazing overnight trip to see the whale playground. The weather was not ideal over night, but it was perfect for the arrival to the whales, where we saw about three pods of 15-20 humpbacks, swimming right next to our boat. In the lead-up to the trip, the Pukka team were in contact several times daily to give us updates and even propose alternatives if the weather would be too bad. In the event, it was perfect. The crew of Francois and Nick were funny, friendly, hospitable, and very professional, and were dab hands in the kitchen. Even when the weather turned for the worse, we felt very sure we were in a safe pair of hands. Definitely recommend the tour and would be keen to try other Pukka offerings.Even though we did not see any whales, this was a one-in-a-lifetime experience! We were really lucky with the weather and the fjords were so beautiful! The guides were extremely helpful and nice as well, really recommend!
