Housed in a grand French-colonial building in southern Nha Trang, this dated museum has 60, 000 or so jars of pickled marine specimens, stuffed birds and sea mammals, and displays of local boats and fishing artefacts. There are tanks with reef fish and sharks but the rescued seals and marine turtles are kept in pitifully small enclosures.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Thap Tram Huong, Tran Phu, tp., Nha Trang Vietnam

Stop At: Dam Market, Ben Cho, Van Thanh, Nha Trang Vietnam
Dam Market (Cho Dam) is the largest and most popular one of all. With three floors full of stalls and boutique shops to explore, Dam Market is a bit of an overwhelming experience, but nevertheless a must-do. It is part tourist souvenir market and part local market. You will find all sorts of merch, from clothes, shoes and bags to tourist trinkets, art, designer knockoffs, electronics, dried and packaged foods and food stalls. The dried seafood section is worth your time, because you will find some of Nha Trang’s most famous local specialties such as dried shrimp, squid and cuttlefish.
Since this is a very popular destination for most tourists, prices may be a little inflated when quoted to you. Get your bargaining skills ready. However, do try not to haggle too much. Remember that a dollar to us may be worth a meal to the locals. To avoid tourists and get a more local experience, visit early in the morning. Early hours are when Nha Trang’s residents go shopping. Plus, it’s a great way to avoid the midday heat.

Had an extremely good tour and experience. Good pick up instructions, guide and driver excellent. Excellent transport, felt very comfortable and privileged through out tour. Choice of sites visited good and where appropriate were changed due to local conditions. Well paced and enjoyable throughout. I particularly enjoyed the silk shop visit, which was one of my reasons for choosing this particular tour along with the other sites visited. Lunch was excellent. Could not have chosen a better tour. Excellent value also.barbaravR8412NN

Having taken private tours in several other stops on this and previous trips I’ve reviewed this tour compared with these. Firstly it was extremely wet, not anyone’s fault of course but most people were picked up near the ship or escorted by guides with umbrellas. We had a long walk and eventually we found our guide sitting sheltered from the rain with a faint hardly legible sign that we really had to search for. We were dripping wet despite umbrellas and coats because we had had to walk further than most. At a cost of around $200 we basically had a taxi service, very little information and a great lunch. We also got entry paid to everything that was on the list. Timing was an issue as we missed most of a performance on Vietnamese instruments and also almost all of a dance demonstration. Everywhere else where we’ve had a guide our experience was better as they spoke very good English (our Nha Trang guide’s English was quite limited and hard to understand which impacted the whole day). Other guides have been more enthusiastic, engaging and informative. That is why we get a private guide. In this case the guide chatted to the driver and not much to his clients. Towards the end of the tour our guide communicated more though this was particularly about his desire for a good review. Of the day overall, lunch was the saving grace and best bit as it was in a genuinely local restaurant and it was good quality and not full of other tourists. This gained an extra star.Ralph_G
