Jaipur was truly special. It’s not like anything I’ve seen before. My guide was Kamlesh. As a professor and a masters degree holder, he is very knowledgeable about all the places we went to and even topics that extend beyond the scope of the tour. We had a good conversation on Indian politics, society, and religions. As my prejudices of India are heavily shaped by Western media, he cleared a lot of things up and explained to me the Indian people’s views. The driver, Ramu, on the other hand, was extra helpful. He went out of his way to help me look for a particular souvenir that I wanted to buy for my mom. He bought me bottled water when he saw that I ran out. And the best part happened on the way back to Delhi. He stopped at a banana stall that wild monkeys were gathering around. I thought the tour was over, but he told me to feed the monkeys for good karma. This was one of the highlights of my trip as I’ve never been to a country where you could see wild animals outside of cages, crossing the street and climbing up walls. I’m truly grateful for the experience to interact with these wonderful creatures up-close. I look forward to returning to Jaipur with the same guide and driver. I plan to book a longer tour with them next time, instead of just a day trip.
