What to expect
Srividya worked for many years in the luxury hotel industry and relishes the opportunity to introduce her guests to South India's cultural and culinary traditions. She lives in a cozy, immaculately clean apartment with her husband, mother, and two children, all of whom are self-described foodies who love to cook together as a family. She delights in preparing fresh, healthy meals using locally grown vegetables and ingredients. She enjoys the balance of a complete meal that has variety in terms of flavors, nutrition, pace, texture, and digestion. You will sense her pride as she shares interesting anecdotes and stories that highlight the traditions and science behind the foods you will enjoy at her table.
A meal in Srividya’s home presents a taste of Tamil Nadu served on a vibrant banana leaf (when seasonably available). You can expect to taste seasonal dishes such as vegetable curries, fish curry, dosas (South Indian-style crispy crepes), pillowy idlis (fluffy, savory cakes), kozhukattai (South Indian dumplings) made from a variety of flour, tamarind rice or curd rice, and her homemade mango pickle.
Please note, this is not a professional cooking class, rather this experience is a visit into an authentic, local home to meet a local person and share the culture and cuisine together.

I had some trouble getting in touch with Srividhya because I did not have what’sapp, and I found the layers of booking services confusing (Tripadvisor via travelling spoon). However, the phone number provided went right to Srividhya, and this was our main way of communicating. She was kind enough to make specific dishes that I was interested in learning. She showed us all the steps for these two dishes (kutu and kozhambu) and answered all my questions. This included possible substitutions and variations. We had a delicious and beautifully presented meal on banana leaves. Overall, we really enjoyed the experience and learned a lot! I’ve already made the dishes at home since returning. I would have loved to actively cook with her instead of just watching, and if I were to book with her again, this is something I would ask about in advance. Once we were there, she had everything thoughtfully prepared, like a cooking show, and it didn’t make sense for us to participate. This was one of my favorite memories in Chennai! This was one of my favorite memories in Chennai! Srividya is very kind and pleasant to chat with. The dishes she had in mind to teach were ones that could be easily recreated back home without unique ingredients, which is a great concept for this class. These dishes were supplemented by several others for a festive lunch. Highly recommend!

Srividya was a great host. We enjoyed the conversation around recipes, traditions and cooking hacks. She has a lovely house and very knowledgeable about the different styles of cooking across India. Finally she is also a great cook, and made really delicious items for us.
