Private Handicraft Session with Japanese Ceramics in Osaka
Overview
We offer a pottery workshop in Osaka with an English, Spanish and Catalan speaking potter (the explanation can also be done in Japanese). While we talk about Japanese gastronomy and culture, the visitors can experience the traditional way of making pottery in Japan.
Choose one of the following plans:
-set of sake (sake bottle and cup)
-a chawan (tea bowl)
-a sushi set (dish and chopsticks rest)
■Create a souvenir of your trip to Japan
■Enjoy ceramic learning with an instructor who has studied in Osaka and Barcelona.
■Enjoy a private class, exclusively for you.
■The price includes a small dish and a chopsticks rest, handmade for use with Japanese traditional design and materials. You can take it with you the day you come to the studio.
■Learn a traditional art while talking about Japanese culture.
The space is located in a house made of wood and earth built 100 years ago, so you can also see a typical Osaka house from before the Second World War.

What to expect
Itinerary
In the workshop, we will made ceramic related to Japanese gastronomy with clay. You can choose between the following options:
-sake set (small bottle and glass)
-sushi set (sushi plate and chopstick holder)
-chawan for tea
- It takes about 1 month and a half to ship your pottery. (Shipping fee is not included)
During the workshop, Anna, Ryo and our team will talk about Japanese culture. Participants will receive as a souvenir a small plate for sushi (decorated with traditional glazw) and a chopstick holder in the shape of a sakura flower made by Anna. If desired, the pieces made during the workshop can be sent to the participant's home (shipping costs are not included).
The workshops are given in Spanish, Catalan or English. Unlike the other experiences related to ceramics, this is the only one that is held in Spanish or Catalan.
The building is a century-old two-storey house in the south of Osaka. It is located next to a street lined with shops selling local food. The visit to the workshop is an immersion into the Japan of the Showa era. In this non-touristy area, the walk from the station to the studio shows a real Osaka that you won't find in the guidebooks.

I've always wanted to try pottery and understand sculpture more, so when I found this ceramics workshop experience going on in Osaka, I was very excited to book it in and make it a part of my holiday there. It was a lovely way to spend the afternoon - Ana and Ryo were so welcoming, friendly and helpful from start to finish. I received a one-to-one tutorial on how to make some ceramic items of my choice, in a colour of my choice, with explanations in both Japanese and English to help with my Japanese language studies. It was a fascinating and fun, hands-on introduction to Japanese pottery! I'm so excited to receive my fire, painted and glazed pot! It will make for a really unique and personalized souvenir from my Osaka trip. I'd recommend this experience to anybody, as it's a way to meet and get to know local residents and have a direct, first-hand experience of a Japanese craft! Really enriched my trip!!Kathera_S

I enjoyed my first Japanese ceramics experience. Anna was a great teacher and went over all the different techniques with me patiently. I was able to make a chawan with Anna’s guidance and can’t wait to use it when I go back home. Thank you so much for such a fun experience.

Absolutely loved this experience! Ryo and Anna are such beautiful people! I was running late to for the pickup and panicking - Ryo waited 10+ minutes as I ran around trying to find the right spot😅 I loved learning about not just the process of making the ceramics, but also what each part was and it’s culinary meaning. Anna was an excellent teacher, but also gave me the opportunity to experiment and try play with the clay myself. Their shop is adorable, and I bought a piece afterwards as a gift for a friend. The neighbourhood is great as well - much more local and relaxed than the big tourist districts, and it was fun to go wandering afterwards. Ryo and Anna gave me recommendations around Osaka and Kyoto as well!! Overall a highlight of my trip so far, and will definitely be recommending it to friends and family! Can’t wait for my sake bottle and cup to arrive at home! Ryo also took excellent candid shots during for great memories!NKTcell

I did this ceramics session with three friends and we had a great time. Ryo and Anna are very warm, welcoming people and great to talk to. It was a great experience learning from them about the process and history of Japanese ceramics and how it compares with Anna's previous experience in Barcelona prior to comingto Japan. We were able to choose from a variety of items to make and had very good instructions as well as practical help in doing this. They will let you to choose your colour and ship it back to your home country after baking the pieces. Afterwards, we also got a chance to sit down for some tea/coffee and view their little display area upstairs to see Anna's other works and learn a bit about them. This made for a really relaxing and intimate experience that I'd definitely recommend as something to do if you're into some crafty stuff and want a bit of respite from the bustling city.
