Private Half-Day Mountain Hike to Druids Circle from Conwy
Overview
The trackways we follow have been used by humans for thousands of years. Your guide will point out the wheel ruts made by iron cart tracks and the marker stones showing the way as Neolithic first farmers made their way to their ritual sites. We'll walk through the fortifications put up over 2, 000 years ago by the local tribes. I'll show you the local flora and fauna and describe how they have been used by the Welsh people. We'll enjoy some fantastic hiking and extensive views - unless the moorland mist creeps up and then we can revel in the mystic atmosphere safe in the knowledge that your local guide knows every inch of the way.

What to expect
Itinerary
We've planned a great mix of a day's hiking taking in some archaeological sites along the way. We'll leave the World Heritage Conwy Castle and hike through the gorse and heather to the top of Conwy Mountain and check out the Iron Age fortress there. We then continue across the moorland crossing little streams with great views over the Irish Sea. We'll probably see the wild mountain ponies and almost definitely the welsh mountain sheep. We eventually reach the Druids Circle - a site that's most definitely much older than when the Druids lived, dating back to neolithic times. We then follow old droving roads descending the mountain to finish at the bus stop where we'll take a regular bus back to Conwy. Allow about £4 pp for the bus fare. This hike lasts 4 hours and ascends(and descends) over 1, 000feet. You'll need good hiking footwear and clothing.

I enjoyed a fantastic guided walk with Amanda, who went above and beyond to accommodate me and make this a brilliant experience. The walk was in a stunning location and I felt in safe hands the whole time. This is not somewhere I would have been confident walking by myself and would have been studying a map the whole time, fretting I had taken the wrong path, instead I hugely enjoyed the incredible scenery, wildlife and quality chat with Amanda. The route involves hills but isn't overly challenging to anyone used to walking for several hours. I would love to return and repeat this experience next year.bepstein15
