Bremen's Roland, a statue of Roland erected in 1404 on the market square in front of the town hall, is a landmark of Bremen and is considered the oldest preserved stone Roland. Since 1973, Roland has been a listed monument and in July 2004, together with the town hall, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
