The wealthy people of the city lived in the houses built on terraces on the slopes of Bülbül Mountain. The houses that were built around an open peristillium courtyard consisted of two floors. The houses, the first construction date of which was identified as the 1st century AD, were used in the following years with various additional modifications until the city was finally abandoned. The floors of the houses are decorated with mosaics and the walls are decorated with marble and frescoes. The houses had fountains and underfloor heating systems.

We loved how he connected the stories throughout the presentation. My husband loved how he answered all his technical engineering questions. I found it helpful when he spelled the names of the important people.

This was a stupendous tour. We were picked up at our hotel promptly in the morning and enjoyed an absolutely full day excursion combining everything Ephesus has to offer. No Frills was super; they addressed all of our interests and organized a personal tour that would accommodate all of our desired tour stops without any shopping or extra things we didn’t want. Our guide Ugur was the best we have ever had (coming from world travelers who have visited every continent and had guides all over the globe)! Not only was he extremely knowledgeable but he was enthusiastic and passionate about transmitting the history of Turkey to his pupils. Furthermore he was warm and kind, and provided ample time for our group (with one older member), never rushing us and always accommodating our needs. Additionally, our driver Mehmet was superb. He too was very accommodating with the extra time we spent visiting the sites, and provided a great historical background as he drove us around. I cannot recommend No Frills Ephesus enough; in fact it would be a huge mistake going with another group!Our tour guide Uğur converted our time from a shallow stroll through stones into a deep walk through 7,000 years. I highly recommend him as a tour guide, as well as Mehmet, the No Frills tour guide dispatcher. It was well worth the price. Uğur outmaneuvered cruise-ship crowds to show us hidden gems, enrich our time with laughter, and save us from being another statistic on the slippery marble streets. Uğur and Mehmet bring decades of experience to bear, combining patience with decisiveness with us, and offering warm hearts. I dare say that without them, our tour through this vast, inspiring ruin would have been eclipsed by the jaded spirit that tramples on such beauty.Really enjoyed this tour.
