What to expect
Meet your driver again at the Mozart Footbridge which Maria and the children ran over wearing their curtain clothes. Head back in the luxury minivan and make a photo stop near Maria’s Abbey on your way to Leopoldskron Palace. After a short stop at Leopoldskron, drive on to the palace of Hellbrunn where you will have the chance to visit the original gazebo and gardens. Then, leave the city and drive south into the stunning Bavarian mountains where the opening scene was filmed. Now is your chance to spin in the field, reenacting the opening scene.
From here we will drive straight to the Eagles Nest which will be our next stop. We will access the Eagle’s Nest with special busses and the original World War II-era elevator made from brass which once transported Hitler’s guests to the Eagle’s Nest. Explore the site with your guide, and learn the history behind it as you go. Enjoy the incredible views to the Bavarian Mountains, the King’s Lake and the surrounding areas of Salzburg. The final portion of the tour will take you through the Austrian lake district where parts of the opening scene where filmed, then on to the “Sound of Music” wedding cathedral in Mondsee where the wedding of Maria and Baron von Trapp was filmed. Return to your accommodations at the end of your day

The tour was great and would be especially enjoyable for Sound of Music fans. A bonus for anyone is that you get to see a lot of sites in the city and beautiful scenery even if you've never seen the movie. Michael our guide was fantastic and has a great sense of humor, which added to the fun.

Let me first start by letting you know that Salzburg Private Tours is open again for private tours. My family was the first tour since Jan 2020, due to Covid restrictions. Carlos was AMAZING, informative and great with our little kids (7 and 4)!!! The tour, which was 8 hours, was fun and informative for all ages. We were able to see places we have only read about in books or seen in movies. We were shown many of the filming locations for The Sound of Music on our way to the Eagle's Nest. Carlos was knowledgeable on the history and was able to paint a picture for us to easily imagine being there in 1939. He rounded out the rest of the tour with many locations spread throughout Germany and Austria utilized for the movie. Through his expertise, we were afforded time to enjoy the locations and were provided with information we wouldn't have even thought to ask questions about. Carlos also took into consideration the need for potty breaks for the kids and made sure they were never wanting. This experience was more than worth the cost, we will recommend them to anyone and everyone. Thank you again for this once in a lifetime experience!!Carlos was a terrific guide and we greatly appreciated his flexibility, inside knowledge, and willingness to go the distance to make our tour unforgettable. We last minute added in a visit to a Salt Mine and the Eagle's Nest area and it was a thrilling day. We highly recommend your tour company to anyone we know traveling to the area. Thank you again! An open day in an alumni tour fell on my birthday. An open day in an alumni tour fell on my birthday. I couldn’t have chosen a better experience to share wit four new friends thanks to Carlos! We loved seeing Eagle’s Nest and the beautiful countryside outside of Salzburg interspersed with stops at the best known Sound of Music sites. Carlos made sure that each of us saw the spots we most cared about and shared his love for the movie and this beautiful area. Lunch was spectacular at a great local restaurant! The Mercedes van was extra roomy for the five of us, very clean and comfortable. I would rate this experience a 10 if possible!
