This past August my wife and I had the wonderful experience traversing the wonders of the Champagne Region with the best imaginable host, Stephane. Many highlights to note but in particular was lunch in a vineyard with special Champenois treats put together by his lovely wife, Prycille; breakfast in an out-of-the-way park with more special treats; and lunch in a wonderful bistro in a small village accompanied by both Prycille and Stephane. We felt we were experiencing what a French person would be doing on a special day off. Our two days flew by. Stephane is encyclopedic about the magical wine called Champagne and its vineyards. I never stumped him with all of the questions I asked. Another special experience was meeting the producers and owners of small Champagne houses where the Champagne is virtually hand made. This was only made possible by Stephane's special inside knowledge and his personal connections. A fitting ending to our time with Stephane was visiting the church where Dom Perignon officiated. While our tour was only 2 days, the memories he created will last a lifetime. Is there a way that I can give more than 5 stars?!?! Is there a way that I can give more than 5 stars?!?! This will be a long review, because I feel that it is helpful to be walked through the experience if you are interested in booking, especially if it is your first time. If you are looking for a customizable, comfortable, and welcoming experience in Champagne, Stéphane is your guy! Champagne lovers and novices alike will be dazzled by his knowledge and passion for all things bubbly. Stéphane is well connected and respected in the Champagne community, which makes you feel like a VIP when you are his guest. He is uniquely able to take your tastes into consideration and find champagnes that suit your palette. Being a solo traveler, it was so comforting to have a tour guide that made you feel instantly like an old friend. I am not French-speaking, but there was no language barrier between us as his English is excellent. I am curious and very talkative by nature, and he answered every one of my questions intelligently, even expanding on the things that he sensed that I was interested in. I had a long layover at CDG that was going to put me just outside of the normal tour timeframes listed on the website. I went out on a limb and messaged Stéphane. He eagerly accommodated my specific time frame and built an itinerary for the day that exceeded my expectations. I was picked up right at the TVG station in Champagne, where we rode in style, top down, in the convertible in order to take in all of the sights from Champagne to Reims. He made it possible to visit the Veuve House (my favorite), despite the fact that they were completely booked up online. We then did a tasting and complete tour at the Ruinart House exploring their famed chalk quarries. Along the way, I was able to pick some grapes right off of the vine passing by some of the smaller growers. My visit fell in the middle of their harvest so I got to see a convoy of satisfied workers celebrating a job well done as they finished their day. I got plenty of Instagram-able shots of the landscape in Champagne and finally some travel shots that weren’t selfies (the struggles of solo travel). As an added bonus, we finished the tour at Notre Dame in Reims, where he detailed the history of the structure and provided walking instructions to get back to the train station so that I could take it in at my leisure. It was an all-around perfect day that wouldn’t have been possible without having a true professional like Stéphane as my guide. BOOK THIS TOUR! I cannot wait to return with friends and do it again. It’s the experience of a lifetime. *COVID NOTE: Be sure to bring proof of Covid vaccination/health pass for entry to any of the houses, and a mask for the public touring portions. Aside from that, I experienced no additional restrictions*Stephane was a great host to the Champagne region. He communicated well as we prepared for the trip. Stephane was a great host to the Champagne region. He communicated well as we prepared for the trip. From the minute he picked us up outside our train car, he made the day special. Our highlights were breakfast in a vineyard with treats made by his wife and lunch with a champagne maker, both activities that Stephane suggested for the day. My only regret is not trusting him more on the locations. His picks were the best part of the visit.OMG, where do I start? Probably with the fact that I am in the wine industry. OMG, where do I start? Probably with the fact that I am in the wine industry. As a result, I have a deeper understanding of the world of wine, have favorite producers, & since it was my first visit to the area I had some pretty strong opinions on what & where I wanted to go. But I also wanted the advice & convenience of a local expert. Basically I am a total pain in the butt American. Stephane & I traded a million messages as I contemplated booking the experience. He was SO patient with me, offered suggestions, & worked to ensure my dream trip to Champagne came true despite visiting during the holidays & the "off-season" when many houses would be closed. Our day with Stephane was magical & I absolutely cannot say enough positive things about him. His knowledge, humor, & hospitality are world-class. I learned SO much from him & his love for the region shines through everything he does. He created a custom itinerary that allowed my BF & I to experience Champagne on a whole other level & I will be forever grateful. Our only regret is that we didn't book a second day. We are already planning a trip back & can't wait to tour the region, this time leaving ALL the planning to Stephane. Do yourself a favor & don't visit the region without spending a day with Stephane!Stephane was a truly wonderful host who made our tour feel very special and personal.
