This is a typical itinerary for this product
Stop At: Pompeii Archaeological Park, Porta Marina (via Villa dei Misteri), 80045 Pompeii Italy
At the time of the dramatic eruption, Pompeii counted about 11.000 inhabitants, while Herculaneum had a population of some 5.000 people. A number of emperors and aristocrats had their holiday villas in these cities. One day, in 79 AD, several meters of ashes buried the whole area in a matter of few hours. Centuries later, in 1748, under the Bourbons government, excavation works started. The discovery was greeted with enthusiasm as it added great wealth to the kingdom and inspired the neoclassicism movement in Europe. Nowadays, the ruins of Pompeii are amongst the most visited archaeological sites in the world, while Herculaneum is renewed for its Villa dei Papiri containing a library of over 1800 papyruses. Visit of the excavations (approx 2 hrs) and if time permits also of a coral and cameos factory to admire the production procedure carried on by expert artisans

The pick up was a little confusing because we picked up at a lot of places and they kept switch vehicles for some of the tourist. However, the actual tour went off without a hitch. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and pleasant. The food was good as well.

Late October 2019: I'd like to give 5 but there were a few parts of this tour you will see were not acceptable. The tour cost E90 and lunch was included. This seemed reasonable at the time... Picked up by a yellow bus from another hotel down the road at 8.45am [it was 15 minutes late, make it 9am] and then we paid on the bus and were told that we had to pay an additional E15 to enter Pompeii and that we would be visiting a jewellery shop before [not in the brochure]. On the bus we were then split into the various tours we were going to do and dropped off accordingly. **Do not take a lot of baggage with you as you cannot leave it on the bus. I took extra clothes etc and had to lug it around with me all day in the heat. The bus also didn't carry water bottles and maps were only given to some of us. I had to ask for one. My tour guide was Silvana for the 2 places we went to today. She was outstanding, but it is quite concerning when your guide says something and the next tour guide is heard saying that what she said was incorrect and then says what the fact should be. OMG. It took 20 minutes to get to Pompeii. Chaos, tour groups everywhere. Once we arrived we were headed into the Cellini Gallery and were greatly pressured to buy things. I eventually did. Super expensive, even with 5-20% discounts, but seemed like high quality. If anything I think they should take you there after visiting Pompeii as what they told/showed us meant nothing, but after I understood. There are many of the tacky tour shops / stalls before you enter Pompeii very much like Pisa if you have been there. The tour itself lasted 1.5hrs and you are at the mercy of the guide to what you get to see and miss out on. We were herded through many areas as other tours were coming right behind. [My friend took the private tour earlier in the day and saw way more things than we did and my other friend did it on her own and saw more than what we did too.] Still, as a first timer I learned a lot. It was incredibly hot and there is limited shaded areas. **Make sure you wear decent walking / sport shoes as the steps and cobbled streets make for strenuous and dangerous walking. Many people had trips or falls. In summary, the Pompeii tour was rushed, overcrowded and didn't need to go to the gallery at all. That was 20minutes more on the tour we could have had in Pompeii. Once done we went to a local restaurant near Naples in a rather dodgy area near the freeway exit. The food there was average at best and the pizzas looked the same. It was a nice change from the heat. Then a longer drive to Herculaneum. It was about 2.30pm by the time we got there [roughly a 2hr tour] and there were only 4 on this tour, which was nice compared to the chaos of Pompeii. Again we had to pay an entry fee on top E13 [not in the brochure]. This late afternoon tour was awesome because it was cooler, quieter, less tourists, better preserved than Pompeii and they had shown more respect to the deceased. There was many original frescoes, paint, wooden structures, shops signs and sculptures. Highly recommend visiting here. There is a small shop where you enter and exit and a drink machine that only takes cash. We were on a smaller bus for this part of the tour and were told it was ok and safe to leave our extra bags here. Upon finding the bus, it was open and no driver to be seen. Anyone could have gone in and taken our stuff. So all up what seemed like a reasonably priced tour of E90 ended up costing E118. Plus a tip. I would do Pompeii on my own next time, but the Herculaneum tour is worth the money.Silvana our tour guide was super informative and passionate about both places. Food was great. Definitely recommend

Pickup was messy. It was raining hard and the hotel pickup area did not even have cover from the rain. Pickups were disorganized and we had to drive to another location to wait for people to pickup one of the guides into another car. Guides did not speak at all for the ride and just chatted with each other. Actual tour was better and guide had good nuggets of information. Most likely will not recommend this tour though.
