Pompeii cannot be imagined without going. There is nothing like it in the world - a place where time stopped and left intact the impression of the world as it was. Having said that, the signage is limited and you really need a guide to understand what you are looking at. Carmine did a great job of explaining the history, for example telling us how the amphitheater was arranged so the wealthy reclined on couches at the front.
