Decided to use Palm Springs as a stop on our self driving tour of California and a quick check of things to do showed the Aerial Tramway as #1. Was really good! Couldn't purchase tickets prior online but didn't matter as this particular time was not busy at all. The cost was $15 for the car and $31 USD per adult to ride the cable car. As stated, it wasn't busy on our visit so we were able to park in Car Park A closest to the Valley Station but there are free shuttle buses to take you up there from the other car parks further away. The experience was well worth it. At the top there is a couple of different view points and you can walk a trail into the mountain. A cafe and giftshop are there as well as a couple of theatres showing info movies on the tramway but probably should be updated as the trams in the films are more like 1970 and not the lovely rotating floor trams in use. Great way to spend a couple of hours in Palm Springs and let's face it, if shopping doesn't interest you then there's not much else to actually do.Had a nice lunch at the top and wonderful views! The cooler temps at the top was a great break from the heat.

Loved the ride up, sights from the station at the top, and hike that followed. Surprised how little oversight and assistance there is once you get into the trails. We actually got lost after taking a wrong turn and wound up on some dodgy footing, but managed to make it back unscathed. The walk back up the switch-back to the Tram takes some effort so be prepared. The temperature at the top was a wonderful 62degrees (compared to 110° at the bottom.). Go early! We really enjoyed the tram ride, but it did seem a little pricey once we realized the walk to get down to the main trails was going to be more strenuous than we prepared for. We really enjoyed the tram ride, but it did seem a little pricey once we realized the walk to get down to the main trails was going to be more strenuous than we prepared for. At $30 each plus another $15 to park, I'm not sure it was quite worth the price this trip since we were restricted to the views we were able to see from around the building. That being said, the view were fantastic and the young ranger that talked with us about the woodpeckers he was caring for was very friendly and informative. Now that we know what to expect, next time we will bring more water, better shoes and a picnic lunch. The memento pictures that were taken felt like a bit of a money-grab since we were not able to purchase an individual photo and were forced to buy a packet at $35. We declined, but would gladly have paid $10 for one picture.
