What to expect
If you imagine Alaska as a place to get away from it all and enjoy the serenity of the wilderness then Orca Cove sea kayaking is the tour for you! The entire 3 hour experience is on the water. A 20 minute fast boat ride is an excellent way to escape the crowds in Ketchikan and potentially spot marine life before we even get to the kayaks. When we arrive at our 57' catamaran in Orca Cove you'll meet your guide and get geared up to paddle the beautiful islands and coastal coves. The true highlight of the Orca Cove tour is exploring the secluded coves and rainforest islands up close and personal from sea kayaks with your knowledgable guide, although the snack of local smoked salmon and hummus from our favorite local cafe' on board the mothership after paddling is ranked a close second by many of our guests.
After paddling and snacking, enjoy another boat ride back to town. Keep your eyes peeled!

Despite being the only person booked for the 8am tour/outing, Devon and his crew accepted my booking and my keen interest in paddling in some of the waters in the Ketchikan area became a reality! From my initial contact with the company until our goodbye, I have nothing but huge accolades for the business and how they treat their customers. I learned a great deal about the history of the area, the land/air and sea life that lives there and saw such wonderful places and critters--truly a great experience! This was a gorgeous trip- cheaper than the cruise companies, MUCH smaller groups, and a very competently-run outfit. This was a gorgeous trip- cheaper than the cruise companies, MUCH smaller groups, and a very competently-run outfit. Our only bit of caution: While the most arduous part of the excursion may be the stairs leading to the office, we were glad our elderly folks opted out of this trip. That said, I was concerned about my own abilities as a kayaker and had no problem. These are sit-in tandem kayaks with rudders. Matt, our guide, was helpful and clear and easygoing.Devon and his crew did a great job for our group of 7. Very friendly staff, nice facilities, relaxing and educational kayak trip. Our guide, a retired veterinarian, was seasoned and experienced, and made for a fun outing. The snacks on the boat after our kayak ride hit the spot. We'd recommend this excursion without hesitation! My partner and I had a beautiful time seeing the town of Ketchikan by kayak this week while in port with Holland-America. Our guide Kevin was stellar; informative and entertaining. The water was calm enough even for a couple of novices, and the scenery was breathtaking. We both would highly recommend the tour company and Kevin as guide. Be sure to reach out to Devon for your booking, top-notch owner and manager! We found the activity by doing a quick google search and came across the company. We found the activity by doing a quick google search and came across the company. We called as we were coming in to port to ask about timing, pricing, etc. I particularly liked this business because it is independent, locally owned and operated, and not owned by the cruise ship conglomerates. Devon (owner) and his staff were incredibly helpful. We just made the 2PM, three hour tour to Orcas Cove. Devon even followed up by text after I called to make sure I knew where the location was, and we also were able to pay online to avoid going to the office. The trip only took 25 minutes from the cruise ship terminal to the catamaran where you get on the kayaks. The staff (Matt our guide, and Alexis was another staff member) were very helpful and knowledgeable about Ketchikan. The process of getting in the kayaks was safe, clean, and quick. We were on the water with Matt for a few hours, saw wildlife, learned about native petroglyphs, and luckily came across a pod of 10 orcas whales feeding with their babies. Would highly recommend supporting this local business given their quality to detail, dedication to customer service, and local knowledge and expertise on Alaska. Choose this over your overpriced cruise packages, since the funds go to support the local economy. We've been researching online a lot, and even if we weren't expecting to see orcas, we would have loved to see a bit more of nature. We've toured around the world and we've seen and done lots of really impressive activities, we loved the stuff here, and the surrounding, but we've felt like it wou...
We've been researching online a lot, and even if we weren't expecting to see orcas, we would have loved to see a bit more of nature. We've toured around the world and we've seen and done lots of really impressive activities, we loved the stuff here, and the surrounding, but we've felt like it would have been much nicer if it would have been more active, to get more information, discover a bit more... Maybe we are too active, but it's our opinion you are reading! Snacks where GREAT, we loved the salmon dip and the beers after the activity, but we where a bit disappointed since it looked like a passive activity mean while kayaking should be FUN!
