I live right across the river in New Jersey, so I know the City very well, but I signed up for the Times Square at night workshop because it was sounded interesting and was something I've never done before (In fact despite coming to NYC often, I had not been in Times Square for years). We had a small group which allowed our tour leader, Zim, to spend a lot of time providing suggestions and critiquing our work. Zim was fantastic at explaining the concepts at hand and really emphasized "dumbing down" the technical terms to make them easier to understand. I appreciated that because not all workshop leaders do that. Lastly, she's hilarious and kept us laughing all night. Clearly NYC Photo Safari targets out of town visitors but as a local I really enjoyed the workshop and would definitely recommend it to everybody.I've been to NYC many times and this was the first time that I took a trip to Times Square and was amazed by the photos I was able to create. I've been to NYC many times and this was the first time that I took a trip to Times Square and was amazed by the photos I was able to create. Times Square--and NYC as a whole--can be overwhelming to photograph no matter what skill level you have. Zim is a great instructor, great photographer, and a great teacher. She made the process of learning the fundamentals of what's happening in each shot really simple and understandable as well as giving great advice throughout the tour. I came into this tour trying to get out of a 'photography funk' and was just looking to capture the city in a different way. Taking this tour helped me get out of my funk and taught me some new and fun techniques that I can use regularly. Even though this is a night tour, you will definitely learn techniques that you can use in any lighting situations. As I have told numerous other people since returning for my trip: this was worth every penny! I loved this tour, and can't wait to go on others in the future! Thanks, Zim!If you have even the slightest interest in taking wonderful (and I mean spectacular!) photos of New York city- whether you are visitor, you live there or a neighbour- I highly recommend this tour. If you have even the slightest interest in taking wonderful (and I mean spectacular!) photos of New York city- whether you are visitor, you live there or a neighbour- I highly recommend this tour. I was lucky and privileged to have Zim not just on the Iconic photography tour but also on the after-dark tour. Yes, I booked in for both two days apart because not only are each tour completely different, you are being taught different skills and seeing different parts of the city. And what better way to see the city than from a local's perspective and also with the most unique souvenir- not your standard photos of New York, but photos that you are quite proud of showing off- no squirrels included!! :) Zim, thank you. I am sorry this review is so late but I was never going to forget to review two amazing days and how wonderful and creative you truly are.An excellent tour with Zim. She knew all the perfect locations so it saved me a lot of time scouting the place. And every shot i took was a learning experience. If i had time i would've taken another one of her tours.

This is long overdue. I headed back to NYC during Thanksgiving and we wound up staying in the city. I had done the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridge shoot with Zim the beginning of March last year, so when I had an opportunity to rebook for NYC after dark, I jumped on it. Zim was again my tour guide so I completely lucked out. Her willingness and technical expertise was fantastic. I did a private session and this time allowed me to focus on the technical aspects of my speedlight (SB 700), blur, and composition in the middle of it all. If you are looking to get some iconic shots of Times Square, street photography all at night this is your ticket. Again, this was really long overdue, but when I am back in NYC I will be rebooking NYC Photo Safari for another excursion.
