The visit to Pont du Hoc was incredible. I had always wanted to see the cliffs ascended by the Army Rangers on D Day. Seeing the American Cemetery was extremely moving especially seeing the Medal of Honor graves. Our driver Thierry was waiting for us in Le Havre when we got off the ship. Olivier provided a lot of new information about D Day that I was not aware of from previous reading especially details regarding Pont du Hoc. On the way back to the ship Thierry took us on a fabulous drive around Le Havre. It was an interesting day. I thought the price was plenty high, but I booked it short notice and everything worked out, so I can't complain.

We arrived in Le Havre port on Regal Princess cruise ship. After breakfast, we disembarked and met our driver Jose on the dock. He drove us to Caen where we picked up our guide Adrien. Our first stops were at Juno beach, where the Canadian and allied troops landed on d-day. What a solemn history! The locals are so supportive there are Canadian flags everywhere. We walked the beaches, stepped into a German machinegun bunker, checked out Canada House. Stopped for lunch at Adrien's favourit local bakery, outstanding. Fantastic day, made all the better by a well read guide and friendly driver. Well worth the cost vs a bus load of tourists.
