"Nippori Fabric Town" Walking Tour
Overview
Nippori Fabric Town is a wholesale textile district in Tokyo.
There are more than 90 shops along with the main street over 1km long.
Because of its large selection and low prices, Nippori is called “The Holy Place for Sewing Lovers”.
Since there are so many shops, you might be overwhelmed and at a loss for what and where to buy.
Also, because it is a wholesale town, there are some rules you should follow when shopping.
In this tour I would like to introduce the very best shops, including small ones in the adjacent side roads.
You will also get some tips to enjoy shopping in Nippori.
That includes my original glossary, “English-Japanese Sewing Word Lists”.
Why don’t you join the tour and find your favorite items at a good price!

Momo-san had contacted me before the tour to find out my areas of interest and my favourite sewing projects, and then she brought me to the right shops to find the fabrics and sewing tools that I was looking for. Especially the "last stop" at Satoh Bin, which offers fabric pieces in affordable prices for my quilting projects. It has been an enjoyable and fruitful trip for me, thanks to Momo-san's recommendations.A must-do for anyone who loves fabric. Momo is a fantastic guide of this amazing and unique area. A must-do for anyone who loves fabric. Momo is a fantastic guide of this amazing and unique area. The number and range of shops is overwhelming and she is a maker herself and that makes all the difference. She helped me with buying which was wonderful in making the most of our time. She provides a great guide so that you can stay on (or come back) and visit shops independently. She tailored the tour to my interests (I was the only one on the tour as there are not many tourists in Japan yet). An amazing experience which I will be back again for.Great tour if you like any type of fashion related craft. Momo knows every corner of Nippori and can find the type of material you’re looking for if you tell her in advance. She’s very friendly and her English is flawless. Great tour if you like any type of fashion related craft. Momo knows every corner of Nippori and can find the type of material you’re looking for if you tell her in advance. She’s very friendly and her English is flawless. Remember to wear your comfortable shoes as she says, as walking around all the Nippori stores takes a lot of walking, but it’s worthwhile.Momo is an amazing guide! She is very knowable about the area and sewing all together. She was able to teach us about the culture and where the fabrics and designs came from.

This tour was fabulous and a must for anyone who sews or just wants to appreciate a different part of Tokyo culture. Momo is a wonderful and patient tour guide who explains the history of the fabric district, the character of each store, and helps out with every transaction. (And I made a lot of transactions!). We visited stores specializing in dress fabrics and notions, but there are shops dedicated to leather, home fabrics and anything you could imagine related to sewing. Definitely walking involved as the district is about 1 km long with shops on both sides. It’s an easy train ride from anywhere in Tokyo on the Yamanote line. There are cafes nearby for much needed refreshment after your tour. I’m already wishing for another visit!Fantastic tour!
