Had not planned to go to Newport on our trip through New England but had some extra time after visiting Hyannis and before we went to Boston. Beautiful town on the water. Drove around and saw White Horse Tavern and drove by some of the mansions (Marble House, The Breakers). Looked like a walkable place. Geez, wished we had made plans to stay a night or two there. Lots of history and looked like a lot has been preserved.I prefer a person guided tour over a narrated tour any day. Newport did not have streets signs posted at all streets which made navigation from point to point difficult. Had to use Google maps to find locations.
