What to expect
The Tour:
Your journey will begin by meeting your driver guide and the biggest custom-made super jeeps in Iceland! We depart from the Glacier Lagoon and drive for about thirty minutes or as close as we can get to the glacier.
Once we arrive at the parking we need to walk for about twenty minutes (1, 5 km) to the glacier and the entry of the cave. Before entering, your guide will go over some safety issues and provide you with helmets and crampons if conditions require them.
Important information:
As the ice caves we visit are completely natural they change very quickly and the conditions in the cave for each tour may therefore vary. The caves are in constant change from the moment they form until they disappear again. With that said, the cave will look different every week depending on the weather and the time of year you choose to visit. Colors can range from blueish green to crystal, to completely black ice.
Stop At:
• Vatnajokull Glacier, Vatnajokull National Park Iceland
• Jokulsarlon, Jokulsarlon, East Region

We booked the crystal cave tour with Arctic.Adventures. We could have not meet a better guide for this trip (thank you, Fannar)! It was an overwhelming tour with lots of historical stories and explanations. We definetly recommend this tour to everybody visiting Vatnajokull.

I guess the whole glacier is receding so it was a bit of a hike to the cave entrance. Once in, the cave is spectacular. I was glad we were there kind of early as it looks like it was getting backed up with other groups. Highly recommended.Damian is a wonderful guide and all round fantastic human. Damian is a wonderful guide and all round fantastic human. He made our trip so much better than it already was. Our group consisted of 20-somethings to some older members who weren't totally steady on their feet. He ensured they were waited for and helped them on the rocky walk to make sure they felt safe. He took some great photos for us, especially in some hard to photograph areas inside the cave. It was clear he took a lot more care (of us and surrounding groups to make sure they got their time too) than any of the other companies. We were picked up at Jokusarlon car park and driven to a parkup point nearer to the cave. You then walk for a while over the natural landscape, learning about the area and then go inside the cave. Would definitely recommend. Just beware the drive to the parkup point, this can be very bumpy but very very fun.The jeep ride was a bumpy and fun experience. Afterwards, we did a nice 15 minute hike to the entrance of the glacier caves. The caves were beautiful.

This excursion was one of the highlights of our south coast trip. Damien was awesome! Always making sure we were staying safe and very informative about the glacier. The super jeep ride was cool and then we had an easy hike over rocky terrain to the cave. Inside the cave was amazing- no need to touch up photos, it actually looks like that! There were several other groups there but it was all well organized. Highly recommend!
