Esteban was incredibly knowledgeable about everything we saw (birds, in particular). We went on three guided tours during our time in CR and he was the best guide we had by far. In fact, he has a degree in ornithology! He was willing to help us see what we wanted to see-- a quetzal! He was easy to talk to, knew every bird just by its sound, and he was prompt. We would not hesitate to do another tour with him! He's amazing!Esteban is a fantastic guide. He is so knowledgeable and had super informative answers to all our questions, and was able to point out some amazing birds that we could see up close through his bird spotting scope. We were able to see a Quetzal and a Toucan! 5 stars for Esteban!

We've hired private guides all across Europe and in Costa Rica and Esteban was so amazing! He knows ALL THE THINGS about birds, all the other creatures both great an small, and the rain forest vegetation that he really just needs his own television show. We met up with him at the Curi- Cancha desk at 7:30a and the 3 hours that followed was like being immersed in a Nature show. We saw things that we NEVER would've seen without him (and his spectacular spotting scope)...hidden tarantulas right on the path, a male Resplendent Quetzal, monkeys in the tree tops, the list goes and goes. Esteban pronounces the species names clearly without an accent when he suspects that you are unsure. Also, we learned that guides like him go to university for years to earn their certification and/or degrees in Guiding. He has been doing this for YEARS and is NOT a random Tico with a fancy scope. Esteban is a fabulous guide. He is punctual and very reliable. He is very intelligent and is a wealth of knowledge regarding the animals, birds, and plants/trees in the forest. We visited Curi cancha reserve and Monteverde Reserve with him. Esteban has an amazing eye! This is key for a forest guide and he spots birds and animals that are not immediately visible. We saw two quetzals, aguti, and warblers among all of the other birds that we saw. He also showed us a Mama Sloth with baby during the day and a tarantula. Finally Esteban also helped us set up our ziplining expedition reservations. I highly recommend him as a guide during your trip to Monteverde. He was also very engaging with our children ages 8 and 5. They loved talking to him.
