Monte Cassino Battlefield tour by Anna Priora historian\guide
Overview
I will be happy to share with you the most important events of the 4 Battles of Cassino, but also the personal Veterans' stories, remembering that memory is very important for our future!
I will pick you up with my Italian Minivan at the train station of Cassino and I will start to show you shortly the new town, totally rebuilt after the war.
We will stop in the town, where the German Headquarter was, and then we will see Castle Hill (where the Kiwis and the Gurkas tried to attack the Abbey) and at the Belvedere, where I will show you the Liri valley where the battles took place.
We are going to visit the Abbey of Monte Cassino on a WW2 point of view, and then we will pay a visit to the Commonwealt Cemetery.

We had a wonderful and very informative tour of the Monte Cassino battlefield. I strongly recommend Anna and her tour if you want to learn the details of this important battle in the Italian campaign. Anna is very knowledgeable and an absolutely wonderful guide. I would give her my highest recommendation. In addition to her thorough knowledge of the battles and the area she was very personable to just talk with. Finally, we had some potential issues with our train back to Rome. Anna went out of her way to help us and ensure we got a train to Rome. Again, I strongly recommend Anna and her fantastic tour.Anna was an excellent guide! She used information I gave her, as well as maps about American military movement during the battle, to best estimate where my family member was KIA'd and she took me there. It was a phenomenal tour. I'm so glad I did it.

We so enjoyed learning more about WW2 and the battle of Monte Cassino. Anna is great and her English is easy to understand. She moves between stories and facts in such a way as to keep your interest up throughout. Also, she drives around to provide a great perspective. We are so happy we did the tour because it was a nice change of venue from food, wine and cooking school. Besides, she is so friendly and accommodating. The three Battles at Monte Cassino were battles of terrain. The three Battles at Monte Cassino were battles of terrain. You can look at maps and photos, but to really grasp the topographic reality you must visit the location and you'll want a good guide -- and Anna is truly excellent. She tailors your tour by your nationality -- I'm U.S. so I got the U.S. tinged version. After picking us up she first gave us the perspective the Allies would have first had and how the mountain towers over the the entire area. Then a look at one of the attempted American river crossings in the first battle as well as into San Angelo to see how that German position completely overlooked the American one. The elegant Commonwealth War Cemetery and up the road to the Abbey itself. At each stop and in between, Anna gave lots of background information and was always pleasant and willing to answer my questions. If I'm ever back, I'll ask for one of the other nationality versions!Great tour with excellent guide. Well worth the price. Learned a lot. Plan on taking it again with the wife.
