Overview
This day trip takes you from Vienna to the Wachau, a picturesque valley along the Danube. You will see many medieval castles, grand monasteries and a breathtaking landscape. Passing the small town of Krems and the ruins of Dürnstein castle, we continue to the village of Spitz on the Danube river. From here you will have an impressive boat trip on the Danube to Melk (only in summer) or you will have a lunch & walking tour through Krems or Dürnstein (winter) The Highlight will be the guided tour through the magnificent Benedictine Abbey.

Durnstein is a very pictoresque small village, The cruise on Donau was excellent and the abbey in Melk was extraordinary! What an experience! Recommend it!

Incredible landscape, no wander it is considered UNESCO world heritage. The boat trip was superb. The guide was very friendly and gave us a lot of information. As for Melk, it is such a wonderful village and the abbey is so peaceful, full of riches. I recommend this tour to everybody. Worth every...

I really enjoyed my day-trip to Durnstein and Melk! We were a mixed group of English and Spanish speakers and our friendly guide managed to switch languages impressively. He was very well informed and told some fascinating stories throughout the day. It rained consistently throughout the day but it was still great. It was beautiful to watch the thunderstorm rolling in across the Danube hills! Wandering around charming Durnstein was relaxing and picturesque. We had about an hour, with great views and a few coffee shops, souvenir shops and wine cellars open to browse. I appreciated having free reign to explore at my own speed. I was happy the boat ride went ahead despite the poor weather. Beautiful views and I had a reasonably priced delicious lunch. The journey was quiet and comfortable, about an hour. Melk Abbey is beautiful with impressive gardens. We had an hour or so before the English guided tour, which we spent wandering the gardens and smaller buildings. Again beautiful views. We spent around 3 hours there overall. Overall a well paced, interesting and picturesque excursion. Would recommend to anyone. Thank you!Peter_N
