You would have to look long and hard to find a better day out than the Mary Valley Rattler Tasting Train. From the moment we arrived at the departure point (old railway station in Gympie) and were met by Andy we were made to feel incredibly welcome. Marita quickly followed up with making sure we were ready to go what we needed to know about the journey during these covid times. The cafe staff in the staion were also very cheery and attentive. We were certainly in need of a coffee after our drive up from Brisbane. Delious food by the way. Our train drivers Russell and Tom also made us feel safe and serure. The tasting plate (1st course) on the train was delicious. The train ride through the countryside of the Mary Valley very relaxing. Itr was a gorgeous day weather wise. On our return we were all seated at tables within the staion and luncheon was served, also delicious. We bid the staff a very fond farewell and returned to Brisbane. Put simply a great day out!!!!Every part of it was voted tops by not only me, but also the three other work colleagues. The trip was extremely interesting. Support people interesting, friendly & proficient. The tasting platter was top shelf & every body enjoyed the lunch afterwards at the station.

A great experience all round: - really delicious local produce showcased (including the tasting plate en route and the 3 course meal at Gympie station afterwards) - interesting mix of local history, scenery and the nostalgia of the restored train - fabulous volunteers - our thanks to them for a great day out The journey is a relaxed 23 kms each way, out and back to Amamoor. The stop in Amamoor, to turn the train for the return trip, allows visitors to stretch their legs, use the facilities and purchase a coffee if they wish. It really is a fun day out - I especially loved the sense of community, with locals waving etc. You really don't have to be a train buff to enjoy it. Top tips: take your camera and a bottle of water (none on the train). It's also quite acceptable to purchase alcohol from the cafe prior to the trip - e.g. sparkling wine etc. (Covid safety was also well handled)What a great way to spend the day......on the train we were given a tasting pallet with local produce and after a 3 course lunch of fresh seasonal foods. Staton has been renovated and you and you can see the old everywhere....very well done Recommend this trip to anyone looking for something spec...
