Overview

While you’re in port in Malta, get to know its two capitals – Mdina, the ancient one, and Valletta, the current one – on this shore excursion that will introduce you to Malta’s history and architecture. Pass By: National Museum of Natural History, Vilhena Palace St Publius Square, Mdina, Island of Malta MDN 1010 Malta

On entering Mdina, view museum from the outside. It is housed in Palazzo Vilhena, a French Baroque palace rebuilt in 1726 by Grand Master Antonio Manoel de Vilhena to designs of Charles François de Mondion.

Pass By: Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Paul, 2 Triq San Pawl, Mdina, Island of Malta MDN 1061 Malta

You will view the Cathedral from the outside.

Stop At: St. John's Co-Cathedral, St. John Street, Valletta, Island of Malta Malta

Designed by Girolamo Cassar and built in 1573-78, St, John’s was the Conventual Church of the order of St. John. The Co-Cathedral hosts nine side chapels, 8 of which belonged to the various nationalities or ‘Langues’ of the order, and the ninth is dedicated to Our Lady of Filermo. There are ceiling paintings by Mattia Preti and two paintings by Caravaggio. Also in the museum are a pair of beautiful Flemish Tapestries.

Stop At: Upper Barrakka Gardens, Battery Street, Valletta, Island of Malta VLT 1220 Malta

Situated near Castille Place. From these gardens you can enjoy unrivalled views across one of the world's largest and deepest natural harbours, Grand Harbour, and over to the Three Cities.

Excellent , knowledgeable guide, we did the half day tour but personally would have liked more time in Mdina , we had time constraints as we were on a cruise ship .

Took a shore excursion with Royal Caribbean. I love history and both of these tours were just fantastic!!! It took me back in time, I could feel myself being in the castles of Game of Thrones ....it was just wonderful. If you are ever in Malta— you have to make plans to see Mdina and Valetts
