Majestic Gros Piton Hike
Overview
It's only a 4-mile walk up and down the tree-covered symbol of Saint Lucia- that is, up a winding trail that climbs the steep, rain forest-covered slopes of a 2, 619 foot volcanic mountain. Periodically, the trees give way to breathtaking vistas of the emerald-green island and the too-blue waters of the Caribbean. Guides are mandatory, but full of knowledge. The caves once used as shelters by freedom fighters of the Brigand war, brightly colored tropical birds and lush vegetation that includes giant gommiers (used to make canoes), the smaller swizzlestick tree ( used to make swizzle sticks) and "peeling tourists" - trees with flaky brown bark that looks painfully familiar to anyone who's fallen asleep on the beach without sunblock.

- **Cruise Ship Passengers*** Please note that due to time limitations. You MAY or MAY NOT be able to reach the summit of the Piton. We do not want you to feel disappointed in not being able to. We try our best to get everyone back to the ship in a timely manner.

Like a lot of people the reason I booked this trip was the fantastic reviews Danny Boy had received and boy he didn’t disappoint. Danny Boy picked us up at 6am with strong communication before hand, always replying to our messages quickly. As soon as we got in to his car, he was upbeat and really set the great mood for the day. He has such a wealth of knowledge it made the 2hour journey feel like 15 minutes. He made sure we stopped on the way to take pictures and enjoy the views. Once we got to Gros Piton, we paid the US$ 50 per person and was allocated a tour guide. The hike is certainly challenging and you’ll be sweating from the first minute so I recommend taking sweatbands and a change of clothes for the journey back. Take plenty of water (we took 3L each which did include the 1.5L Danny Boy gave us). Take snacks; bananas, nuts etc. as you’ll need to replenish on the hike. I would also recommend sturdy trainers or walking boots as the hike is essentially climbing rocks after rocks. The view at the top is amazing and we’ll worth the hike. Once we got back down Danny Boy had ice cold beers as promised and again made the 2 hour return journey fly by. We had an amazing day and would say it was our favourite excursion of our holiday. Danny Boy was a great driver and was so very informative about St Lucia. He made sure we had everything we needed for the hike and made sure we were comfortable on the ride back as we were exhausted. Highly recommended

Where to start! I guess I first will say I read reviews here which is what led me to book with Dannyboy. From the start of my reservation they were very responsive, helpful and prompt to respond. Our hike was to start at 6AM. We booked a the Gros Piton hike and were planning to do the mudbath...
Where to start! I guess I first will say I read reviews here which is what led me to book with Dannyboy. From the start of my reservation they were very responsive, helpful and prompt to respond. Our hike was to start at 6AM. We booked a the Gros Piton hike and were planning to do the mudbath sulfur springs on the way down. To start the day Danny was upbeat positive and honestly just a joy to be around with his happy personality. Our hotel was an hour and half from the hike. As we made our way to the hike I quickly realized Danny was a wealth of knowledge. He shared so much history about the island and truly was such a great teacher. When I travel to other countries I try to soak up as much as I can about the culture and the area. Danny did such a wonderful job in giving us this experience on our tour. Some very memorable moments we had on his tour.... the fresh bananas he bought us on the way (which were the best I have honestly every tasted), the bottled water for our hike, the Piton Beer he got us to enjoy after the hike, stopping on the way home to pick fresh mangos (not just once but twice for the experience for our daughters), the restaurant recommendations, the many history lesson's, jokes and riddles on the way home, he and my daughter having a conversation in french which my daughter thoroughly enjoyed. If this was not enough he truly made the experience at the mud bath - he was so interactive with us which really made our experience! We all walked away saying how Danny Boy was amazing and he made our day! It really has been the highlight of our week. And to top it off after he dropped us off he some locals that were working at our resort to bring us back a fresh coconut they had just cut. He gave us a new experience of Saint Lucia and we have a new love for this island. My daughter's quote of the day "He was GREAT, I absolutely love this place and today was the best day yet".Jay_L

Surpassed Expectations! This is more than an amazing 2600+ft hike to Gros Piton! It is a cultural immersion, a local experience of what St. Lucia is all about. Danny Boy picked us @6am from Marigot Bay docks. We stayed at an off the island resort, so he waited patiently for our ferry to arrive. Right from the get-go, Danny Boy was excellent at communication. He responded as quick as humanly possible via Viator which we appreciated a ton. Danny Boy was an encyclopedia and history buff! He schooled us good along the way to the hike and not in a boring monotone kind of way. He was quite interactive and animated with his approach. After the Piton hike, Danny Boy of course had a cold Piton waiting for us. He then took us to this awesome black sand beach and to a local off the street vendor where we enjoyed the best authentic chicken and pork BBQ with salad, plantain and bananas. We seriously ate, drank and listened to reggae tunes amongst the locals. Check out my IG if you want to see how much fun we had @ja.yc - these photos don’t do justice. If you want exceptional service, experience an island life and get more than a beautiful hike and view, then this tour is for you. Danny Boy is your man! Thanks for a great time. Danny Boy is awesome. No one is more knowledgeable and fun, kept us entertained during the entire ride. The hike up the mountain was fun, bring a good snack with as you will burn a lot of calories on the climb. At the top we were entertained by a few mongoose who hang out. The ride back to the resort goes by fast with more fun as Danny Boy quizzes you from the lessons to the Piton. Thank you for so many laughs and memories that will never be forgotten.
