Luzern City Tour with Lake Cruise Private Tour from Basel
We're sorry. This tour is no longer available.
Overview
Lucerne is probably the most famous Swiss city. Surrounded by mountains and at the end of Lake Lucerne, the city is the starting point for numerous excursions.
The Lucerne cityscape is characterized by the covered, medieval Chapel Bridge, which, with its gable paintings, is one of the oldest covered wooden bridges in Europe. Another landmark of the city is the Musegg Wall, which has been preserved in its original fortified form with the exception of one tower.
Historic houses decorated with frescoes line picturesque squares in the car-free old town, such as the Weinmarkt. Lucerne is a city of squares and churches. The Jesuit Church from the 17th century is considered the first sacred baroque building in Switzerland and the two towers of the Hofkirche are an integral part of the cityscape. The dying lion, which was carved into the rock to commemorate the heroic death of the Swiss who fell in the Tuileries in 1792, is one of the most famous monuments in Switzerland.

Begin your tour by meeting your guide at your hotel and make your way to the train station in Basel. An intercity train will take you within one hour into central Lucerne. Close to the main station, the concert hall designed by Jean Nouvel is located. Enjoy the fantastic panorama to the city center across the Reuss river and the surrounding mountains. On the walk with your tour guide, you'll continue towards the wooden "Chapel bridge", a 200m long pedestrian crossing bridge. Get informed about the history of the bridge with it's paintings. You'll continue the tour, discovering the car-free inner city circle and the old town. Your tourguide will give you information about the houses and the former importance in 16th century. Walk across the "Spreuer bridge", the second wooden bridge and take a coffee break along the "Reuss" river.
After the break, you will continue along the city wall, which was used for defense purposes in early history. At the end, you'll find the "lion monument", a rock relief which commemorates the massacres of Swiss guards during french revolution.
Your tourguide will lead you back to the boat station, where you'll board the panoramic yacht, which will take you out to the lake Luzern. My husband and I understood we were paying $441.00 for a private tour. I was advised after the tour guide arrived that. He has no vehicle. and our tour package for $441.00 fee did not include a travel pass wich we now need to travel with the guide wich was $172.00. The tour guide does not own a vehicle. We assumed we would be traveling in a vehicle not mass transportation going in and out of stations to change tram, bus and trains + there was no ticket provided to take the lake cruise wich was over $100.00 This was a an extreme disappointment The guide was new at this job and read off history facts from notes he had written down and was at a loss for words, he did not appear to be very interested in the information he was sharing with us He was a very pleasant person but not really a "people person" The lake cruise for 1 hour was truly lovely however, I would have never agreed to pay over $800.00 for a 4 hour tour and 2+ hours of mass transport We have taken numerous tours with Aviator before that were excellent This tour fell short on customer satisfaction and tour description !
