This is a very good, all day trip from London. Leeds Castle is absolutely beautiful and has an incredibly interesting history. The Owl and Falcon experience is well worth it and the Hedge Maze is something that you have to try (takes 20 to 25 minutes). You get about 20 minutes to walk around the ...
This is a very good, all day trip from London. Leeds Castle is absolutely beautiful and has an incredibly interesting history. The Owl and Falcon experience is well worth it and the Hedge Maze is something that you have to try (takes 20 to 25 minutes). You get about 20 minutes to walk around the edge of downtown and this provides you with a distant view of the white cliffs. You don’t actually go up to the cliffs, though. From Dover, you take the bus to Canterbury Cathedral. Quite honestly, although I guess you might as well see the cliffs if you are driving near them, I would have rather we skipped Dover and had more time in Canterbury. The cathedral is dripping with history, the shopping area is fairly quaint and, even after touring the Cathedral and walking around the town, there is enough time to have a nice lunch in one of the many restaurants along Canterbury’s cobblestone streets. You can’t go fifty feet without hitting a restaurant. A long bus ride to Greenwich follows, and you board a riverboat at the Greenwich Harbor as soon as you arrive. The tour ends after a half hour on the Thames. All of this is a very good way to spend a day, but having an excellent tour guide like we had, Trish, made it an EXCELLENT way to spend the day. Trish’s knowledge of applicable history is encyclopedic and her pronunciation of French names and places was spot on. If Trish is your guide, try to stay awake on the bus rides because you’ll learn a lot when she speaks.Julie_E
