We had a great time on the bar hopping tour with Soma! Entering bars and izakayas in Japan can be a little intimidating, so it was perfect to have a local guide to show us around and help us with the language barrier. We started with a sake bar where Soma helped us order some local snacks and some delicious sake. We then made our way to Pontocho to a small bar that we never would have found on our own! After walking through Gion (spotting a Geisha or two) we ended at a wonderful soba spot that was the perfect way to cap off a rainy night. Highly recommend!Soma's tour was great fun. Soma's tour was great fun. We started off at a lovely izakaya where we enjoyed delicious fresh fish, sake and beer. It was packed with locals and the quality was top notch! That was followed by a small side street sake bar where we had a sake tasting of regionally produced sake. We ended the night at a quaint and homey pub where I had some local gin. The locations selected were varied, and gave us a broad sense of local fare, cuisine and spirits. The group was also very fun and Soma did a wonderful job of answering questions, and just generally being an excellent host to ensure we all had a wonderful time.Highly recommend Soma and his gatherings! Great to have that local input. Soma has great energy and is a good conversation. The group was fun and most welcome during our first trip to Japan.
