The luau was great. The service was friendly. It wasn’t too crowded. The location was wonderful since it was close to the ocean. The buffet food was good. It was nice to have the food before the show. But it was an hour and a half between the time we checked in and the show started. The show was lovely. But only an hour long. I wish it was longer. Overall a great experience.Having read that this was rated the best Luau on Hawaii our expectations were pretty high. We were disappointed. Having read that this was rated the best Luau on Hawaii our expectations were pretty high. We were disappointed. Book in time was 5:30, we arrived at around 5:20 to a long queue. No big deal we thought. However, once we got to the venue we found things had already kicked off, apparently there was someone taking photos but we never saw them (that didn't worry us particularly but I'm sure some people would be looking for a photo). There was no guidance as to should we get a seat before or after getting food. We elected to get food first a buffet style "bun fight" on several tables without knowing what was on each (lucky we didn't end up on the mac & cheese and chicken nuggets line!) Once we got our food and drink (thank goodness the Mai Tais were included - it saved the night) we then found a seat at the back (no big deal - viewing of the stage was still good). The food was nice without being fantastic. The pre-show was underway - we were surprised to see the musical instruments were all "modern" rather than authentic. The MC encouraged us to go back for some more food so I did - to find everything other than some Pio and lettuce had been cleaned away. Deserts were a selection of cakes that had been out too long so were drying out. On to the show - it was OK, the MC touch on some history (which we enjoyed) and then performers showed different dances of the Polynesian Islands. Now, being Australian we have regularly seen the New Zealand Haka - what was presented here was NOT a Haka with any feeling which then questioned the authenticity of the other displays. Being at the back we were next to the sound and light booth where the operators rudely talked through the show showing disrespect to the performers and audience. We could tell that the audience had not bought in to the show as the response and applause was apathetic at best. In summary - look for an alternative - maybe on a smaller scale,This is a wonderful tour of the Pacific Island cultures from Hawaii to New Zealand to Polynesia. Great food too! Just remember the show starts at six but the food starts at 5:30.

If this is your first time at a luau it will tick all the boxes. Our experience was mixed...they have these several times a week but there was no cover over anything so when it rained they handed out ponchos but our table, food and chairs were all wet. The food was acceptable and the drinks were included. The flower necklaces were not. I would have expected them to be for these prices. Despite the rain the preformers were great and provided a good show and posed for pictures after the event. This was our second luau (our first was on the west side of Maui) and I think the one in Maui was a better experience. Not worth it. Food was cold and we were out in the rain while eating. They ended the performance and open bar over an hour early, even though it had stopped raining after about the first 30 minutes.
