What to expect
The tour will begin at the hanging bridges. This adventure consists of a 3 km (2 mile) circuit trail that will allow you to enjoy the flora and fauna of the rainforest. You will cross 10 fixed and 6 hanging bridges at varying heights. The trail has a maximum incline of 7%, with no stairs. It is covered in slip-resistant concrete and has safety railings, so that you can walk easily and feel safe among the heights. Our next stop is the La Fortuna Waterfall. This will include a hike down to the base of the majestic waterfall, about a 15-minute walk. Once we reach the bottom, you can choose to take a refreshing swim or just relax and take in the natural beauty of the area. Next, we will head to “La Finquita” Restaurant for a delicious traditional Costa Rican lunch. After lunch, you will have the opportunity for a bit of rest, before we begin our hike of the Arenal Volcano trails, where we cross the rainforest jungle and the solidified lava trails from the powerful eruption of 1968. You will discover a variety of plants, fauna, and amazing rock formations. At the top of the trail, we will have an amazing view of Lake Arenal.
Stop At:

My wife and I booked a hiking trip of the Hanging Bridges + La Fortuna waterfall through our resort. They set up with Jacamar, and the guide Hugo - and it was a great day. Hugo was great, we couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Both hikes were great, he was very helpful, friendly, and informative. He took us to lunch and walked us around the farm - sugar cane, bananas, pineapples, and more. A memorable day thanks to Hugo! Highly recommended! The waterfall is amazing (and they provide a towel) so bring a swimsuitAllen was a great tour guide - fabulous English and knowledge of everything Costa Rica. Allen was a great tour guide - fabulous English and knowledge of everything Costa Rica. The Hanging Bridges gave us an up-close view of the rainforest before we walked down 500 steps to an amazing waterfall. The walk back up was not so fun, but still so worth it. Then the lunch at the organic farm was truly delicious and we got to sample local booze, Guaro, and Costa Rican coffee. A great well-rounded day!I was very glad we booked this guided tour. I was very glad we booked this guided tour. The park was beautiful, and the rain forest amazing, however we would have missed almost every bit of wildlife if it hadn't of been for our guide. He knew just where to look to find howler monkeys, bats, tarantulas, leaf cutter ants, different flora, and even spotted a fer-de-lance that we had ALL walked by. Diego's English was outstanding, and his knowledge of the forest, as well as the volcano was impressive. Warning about the waterfall, the path down is easy, but the hike up was a little challenging. I think it is approximately 500 steep steps back to the top. It was well worth it. The final hike was pretty devoid of wildlife, as it's mostly lava rock and low growth forest, but the scenery was beautiful and his explanation of the eruptions and geology made the hike great. This is an all day tour.. 8am to 5pm with a lunch break in the middle. This did allow us to see several sloths, toucans and some spider monkeys as we went back and forth to the different sites. Diego once again came through and was constantly scanning the road side to find what we came to see.My wife and I really enjoyed this tour. My wife and I really enjoyed this tour. Diego was incredibly knowledgeable and had an unbelievable ability to spot wildlife. I could confidently say I would not have seen any of the animals he pointed out in Mistico without his help. La Fortuna was also very beautiful and a fun little swimming stop. I don't know if they do the same style lunch every time but ours was at a local farm where we had three courses of local cuisine and coffee prepared the costa rican way. I would say that the lunch was HUGELY undersold. It was a fantastic part of the overall experience. Highly recommend this tour. I also recommend Jacamar for transport. They drove us around Costa Rica a lot and it was always a good experience.Harold was an awesome tour guide. Harold was an awesome tour guide. He went out of his way to find a sloth for my wife-even had the van pull off the side of the road on our way back to the hotel to show her a sloth. The hanging bridges were great and the waterfall is gorgeous. Lunch was great as we were treated to a bird show while we ate. An experience to not miss.
