Hervey Bay Whale Watching Experience
Overview
Experience close whale encounters (when the whales are so close to the boat that you could almost touch them), pec/tail slapping, breaching, spy-hopping and mating behaviours.
As the newest 1/2 day boat in the fleet, this boat was built specifically for amazing whale and dolphin viewing. Low passenger numbers (only take maximum 60% of capacity), means everyone has a chance to get a great view of the action from both inside and outside the vessel (with multi-level viewing decks).
Two daily cruises to choose from. The ONLY 1/2 day cruise boat to include meals (buffet lunch on the morning cruise and buffet dinner on the afternoon cruise).
Listen to the whales 'sing' with our hydrophone and enjoy a live commentary in English (French, German, Italian and Spanish translation also).

What to expect
We'll depart from the Great Sandy Straits Marina out towards Platypus Bay, where the mighty Humpback Whales come to rest and play. Some of the behaviours we'll observe are: breaching, spy-hopping, pec-slapping, tail-slapping and lunges. We usually see our resident bottlenose dolphins playing with their Humpback whale friends too. Cruising alongside the West Coast of K'gari (Fraser Island), we may even be lucky enough to spot a dingo.
Our 1/2 day morning or afternoon cruise will leave you with cherished memories to last a lifetime. Choose from our Extended Morning (5 hour cruise) or our Afternoon + Sunset (4 hour cruise). A great day out on the bay! We saw lots of whales and dolphins and the kids had a great time. The friendly and knowledgeable staff helped my son when he was feeling sick, thanks so much!

Appreciated the care the Captain took to make sure he respected the space the whales required to stay safe and the interesting commentary he gave.

We enjoyed our half day whale watching with Whalesong. We were picked up at our accommodation on time and transport to the Marina, and subsequently delivered back. Not long after setting off coffee and cake was served. There is great commentary on the boat and the staff were very pleasant. Lunch was included in the price and was very generous. We saw lots of whales but they were quite inactive, most just lying on top of the water. There were a few breaches and tail flaps but not as much as we would be expected. This of course was no fault of the Whalesong operators. I can thoroughly recommend Whalesong as a whale watching experience.I did this half day trip with my wife and thoroughly enjoyed it. When we went there were plenty of whales towards the end of the tour. The Captain does his best to keep everyone informed,and does go searching for the whales. The boat is a good size, which in my opinion ensures there is better service. Would highly recommend this company. Keep up the good work Whalesong.Excellent from start to finish! Excellent from start to finish! From on-time pick up to drop off, this experience was very well orchestrated and delivered. The commentary was good but difficult to hear all over the boat. We saw only a few whales as it was nearing end of season, but they put on a show for us. Naturally, I didn’t get one good shot! LOL But I have my memories and no one can steal them except for the ‘old timer’. Staff were friendly and competent. Food well prepared and tasty for limited facilities. Highly recommend.
