A breathtaking visual appears as you reach the UNESCO-listed town of Hallstatt. Jagged mountain peaks reflected in a pristine alpine lake offer the backdrop for this charming Austrian village. Drive past verdant fields, picturesque settlements, and the towering, 8, 200-foot (2, 500-m) peaks of Hoher Dachstein, blanketed in massive glaciers. Arrive in Hallstatt, an enchanted place of extraordinary beauty, where pastel-colored houses cast flickering reflections on the glassy, tranquil lake, surrounded by the mighty Alps on all sides.
Walk through narrow alleys and make a stop at the 12th-century Beinhaus—or Bone House—home to over 1, 200 human skulls. Due to the lack of space in this mountainous terrain, it used to serve as the local cemetery. Sip some coffee on a terrace near the water, or simply soak up the relaxed atmosphere as you wander at your own pace.

While the village itself and the lake views are gorgeous, the funicular ride to the top is a stunning, spectacular view! Totally worth it!
