Stop At: Kanakis Olive Oil, Palea EO Chanion Rethimnou 79, Apokoronos 730 08, Greece
We will visit a modern olive mill, so that you can get a “close-up” picture of how olive oil is produced, and we can also enjoy the opportunity to sample some of the oils.
Duration: 45 minutes
Stop At: Δημοτικό Σχολείο Εμπρόσνερου, Emprosneros 730 07, Greece
We will explore some myths and stories hidden in the stones of an early Christian church which was used as a hiding place by people who were evicted by the Turks. We also learn about the history of a 400-year-old tower which was built by the most fearsome Turkish Janissary and is still almost intact to this day.
Duration: 25 minutes
Stop At: Apokoronas, Apokoronou 48, Chania 731 35, Greece
We will “climb” 850 metres above sea-level on an off-road route. We will travel through the Lefka Ori woods and you will be stunned by the panoramic view from the trail. Later, we will meet a shepherd who will show us how Cretan cheeses are made and we can try some of the cheeses he makes himself.

- CRETAN CHEESES
- Cretan livestock farming has hardly changed over the years. It is based on small animals, mainly sheep and goats, rather than cows, and in the main part the animals graze freely or are partially stabled. All year round, the animals either roam free or are kept in traditional pens, and they feed almost exclusively on Cretan herbs and bushes. The plants and shrubs which are native to Crete have a distinct scent and high nutritional value. This specifically Cretan flora, combined with the local breeds of animals, contributes to the distinctive character of Cretan products. Local breeds of animals are fully acclimatised to the island’s weather and there is no need to use either drugs or antibiotics. Cretan dairy products are made from goat and sheep's milk, which are also used to make cheeses and yoghurt. Traditionally, small quantities of dairy products are a daily part of the Cretan diet. Studies have shown that eating dairy products reduces the risk of hypertension, stroke and colorectal cancer.

We went for the evening tour. We were picked up an dropped off at the hotel. The trip lasted about 4 hours. Part of the tour was offroad driving in rough terrain. (Beware: it is bumpy!!!) Nice view of scenery. We stopped at an olive oil factory and a couple of churches before stopping for dinner ...
We went for the evening tour. We were picked up an dropped off at the hotel. The trip lasted about 4 hours. Part of the tour was offroad driving in rough terrain. (Beware: it is bumpy!!!) Nice view of scenery. We stopped at an olive oil factory and a couple of churches before stopping for dinner at a cheese factory. Here we were served delicious «short travelled» lamb, cheese, and tomatosallad together with home made red wine. The atmosphere was very positive, pleasant and relaxed. There was no «pushy» selling of products. Our driver/guide, Andreas, was super. He had many stories to tell about the local area and Crete/Greek culture. We had a very nice experience, and we are happy to recommend this trip!suma7272

Wat een leuke verrassende excursie. Chauffeur was ontzettend aardig, vertelde veel over Kreta. Bezoek aan olijfolie-fabriek was erg indrukwekkend. We kregen een duidelijk beeld van de werkzaamheden in deze fabriek. Vervolgens de bergen in met een bezoek aan een herder, kaasfabriekje en een gastvr...

Le trip commence le matin avec l’arrivée du jeep juste en face de l’hotel. Nous sommes accueillis par le chauffeur Paul et la guide Francaise prénommée Anne, aussi sympathique l’un que l’autre. Programme parfaitement conforme a ce qui est annoncé. Une excellente journée au final.

Danke für einen weiteren unvergesslich schönen Tag in den Bergen Kretas!! Bei unserem letzten Urlaub auf Kreta vor drei Jahren hatten wir bereits die große Tour mitgemacht und es war einfach nur toll! Dieses Mal haben wir die Abend Tour von 18:00 - 22:00 Uhr. Auch diesmal waren die Strecken und d...
Danke für einen weiteren unvergesslich schönen Tag in den Bergen Kretas!! Bei unserem letzten Urlaub auf Kreta vor drei Jahren hatten wir bereits die große Tour mitgemacht und es war einfach nur toll! Dieses Mal haben wir die Abend Tour von 18:00 - 22:00 Uhr. Auch diesmal waren die Strecken und die wunderschöne und wilde Natur Kretas atemberaubend. Alleine hätten wir diese vielen schönen Eindrücke nie sammeln können, weil wir sie 1. nie gefunden hätten und 2. nicht hingekommen wären (obwohl wir auch gerne zu Fuß unterwegs sind). Abgesehen von der besonderen Abendstimmung in den Bergen bei dieser Tour, war es beide Male einfach die Summe aus den tollen Strecken, den unglaublich netten Tourguides, der familiären Stimmung, den vielen neuen Informationen über Land und Leute und den leckeren traditionellen Speisen, die die Touren so besonders machen und einen in kurzer Zeit so viel vom Land erleben lassen. Zu Beginn der Tour wird man übrigens ganz bequem am Hotel abgeholt und nachher wieder "heimgefahren" :)sandraoO8470JU
