Our tour guide, Pat, was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and down to earth. My friend and I were lucky to be the only two people on our afternoon tour. With all of the other tours ranging from 10-30 folks, we got our own unique adventure. Pat made us feel right at home and answered all of our questions with insight only a local could give. Plus, he was very easy to talk to (and very funny!). We are just starting out our trip in Iceland, but I feel confident that this will be one of my favorite memories in this beautiful country. Thank you, Pat and Local Guide, for everything you do!Awesome trip!!! Awesome trip!!! We were extremely lucky to be the only group on the tour :) Reinier, our guide, was fantastic (this was our second tour with the company and we had Reinier both times which we were super happy about). He was so good with our two rather excited boys. Pick up and drive out to the glacier was all very easy. He was patient as we all put on our crampons and started the hike. There was one other tour group on the glacier at the time and they went in a different direction, leaving us the entire glacier to ourselves. Hiking up and down the glacier was all effortless. Seeing the crevices up close was amazing and all the different colours that the ice displayed was spectacular. The boys loved using the ice picks too. Reinier never rushed us and was informative about the glacier. Once we finished there were so many other tours on the ice and they were all large. SMALL tours are what you want! Thank you once again Local Guides for your professionalism and excellent service.Such a fun tour with great guide Lisa. Such a fun tour with great guide Lisa. My only regret is that our 12 year old daughter wasn't old enough to do some of the more advanced tours. Nevertheless, it was a truly memorable experience to be standing up on a glacier. My new bucket list is to come back and do it all over again in the winter and go on the longer tour. Would highly recommend taking this tour. The company was super well organized and Lisa was funny, informative and very accommodating to everyone's needs and abilities. She also told us funny troll stories ... an added bonus! This was such a cool experience, and so beautiful. The hike is pretty easy, and they give you helmets, crampons, and a pickaxe type thing for safety (and fun). It is a glacier, so make sure to wear layers and gloves, but it wasn’t too bad. Our tour guide was Lisa and she was very helpful and amia...

We were a group of 14 friends--all in their 50s, except for my wife and me, who are in our mid-60s. Not the easiest group, to say the least. The glacier hike was magnificent. Our guides, Kiddy and Pat, were amazing. They sized up the group quickly, knew what (and whom) to watch out for, knew with whom to joke, and overall were just delightful people to hike with. Explained everything clearly, and answered all our questions (including some pretty weak ones) with knowledge and humor. As we returned, I thought I lost my watch, and Pat was amazing in helping me (turned out I just dropped it into my backpack). If you are traveling to Iceland and can hike the glacier (not too taxing), definitely contact Local Guide of Vatnajökull. You will be glad you did.
