What to expect
At 7:00 A.M, our tour guide and a driver will pick you up at your hotel and then head to Chau Doc town. In Chau Doc, , we will first do a small boat trip to visit a Cham village where the minority follows Islam and owns a very different culture as well as language among the other ethnic groups in Mekong Delta.
- Our next stop is a Khmer pagoda near Tra Su forest. No matter how hard life gets, Khmer people always offer the best they can for the monks and their holly pagoda where is not only a religious worshipping place, but also educates their cultural values and traditions.
- Tra Su melaleuca forest is a very short drive from the pagoda and that’s a wonderful place to explore nature and wild birds in Mekong Delta. A motorboat takes you deeper into the forest. Then, rowboat ladies who ferry visitors through the flooded cajuput forest for about 15 minutes.
- The final stop is sugar palm making factory, you can see a vast palm tree field and the way local people make it sugary and trade it all over the region. It’s one of our highlights on the tour.

He explained a lot about the Vietnamese culture, habits and people and we were able to ask him all our questions. One of our highlights was definitely our visit to the Tra Su national reserve. Be prepared to spend a lot of time in the car! We had an incredible one day Tra Su Forest tour with Quang and Vu. Quang made our journey an unforgettable experience. He took great care of us and I introduced us to the local lifestyle and habits. Exactly what we were looking for - escaping the tourist madness. Also we had special food requirements, which were fulfilled at any time and DELICIOUS. (Vegan) thanks to Quang’ efforts!! Furthermore, Quang included an extra surprise. :) Vu drove us very safely around the Mekong Delta in a spacious and comfortable car with wifi access. This was my second trip back to Vietnam. And I continue to choose the Mekong Smile Tour to experience the Mekong Delta Discovery Tour. The full-day tour to Chau Doc Town and Tra Su Forest in Vietnam was an incredible adventure that allowed me to explore the beauty and diversity of the region. The tour guide, Ms. Linh, was knowledgeable and friendly, providing insightful commentary on the history and culture of the Mekong Delta. I had the opportunity to discover Cham village life by traveling through nature in a sampan to Tra Su Forest and observing a variety of wild birds. In addition, I enjoyed the lovely scene of sugar palm trees and my lunch of traditional Vietnamese fare at Tra Su Forest. It was a truly unforgettable experience that left me with a deep appreciation for Vietnam's rich heritage and natural beauty. We had the pleasure of traveling through Tra Su Forest with the tour guide “Trong”, a very kind, smart and helpful guy who was born in An Giang and knows everything about the area and the Mekong Delta as well. He made a lot of amusing jokes, but had the right amount of seriousness and scientific correctness while dealing with controversial topics. All in all, I can’t imagine a better tour guide for the trip; in the end it almost felt like he was a member of our family. None the less the food was really authentic and consisted of local specialties. In the end, the trip was a very pleasant experience; owed by the excellent service of our tour guide Trong.
