What to expect

Itinerary

Your trip departs from Te Anau and takes around 1.5 hours travelling in a vehicle to Fiordland’s mountain "divide" - between east and west. The walk begins at the Divide Shelter with a steady climb on a well maintained track. Gaining an elevation of 400 meters, the ascent takes approximately 2 hours at a leisurely pace. On a fine day lunch is had on Key Summit, and in unfavorable conditions in a nearby shelter. After lunch you will descend back to the Divide Shelter before returning to Te Anau. You will spend approximately 4 to 6 hours walking based on your ability but you should be prepared for at least 4 hours walking at a leisurely pace with some hill climbing. This walk is rated 'easy' but some fitness is required for the hill climb.

We had a modified version of this excursion and enjoyed it immensely. We started off conventionally from our lodge in Te Anau, but needed to be dropped off in Milford Sound at the conclusion. The day we did our hike we had rain and clouds so the summit would not offer a view. Rowe (sorry I do n...

I had a personalised 1:1 guided hike with my lovely and patient guide Madeleine. She's also the driver and my photographer. As the only hiker on the day she was able to personalise the walk with flexibility. We still have time left after the hike so Madz took me to the start of Lake Marian to giv...

What a fabulous day! We were with Jeff, our guide who knew all the mountains, valleys and flora and fauna. Getting to the top was well worth it.

We absolutely loved our day walk at Routeburn Track with John, he was so knowledgeable and very accomodating to our interests. He really spent the time to get to know us and in turn used this to tailor the experience to us. We couldn’t fault the entire day!
