Full Day on Vatnajökull Adventurous Glacier Exploration Hike
Overview
We deliver the lowest guest to guide ratio (4:1) on the market, meaning we can deliver high quality hikes that involve more adventure. You could end up discovering temporary features on the glacier that you and no one else has ever ventured into or getting into tight places that larger groups cannot.
You'll be informed on the surrounding nature and landscape formation by experienced and knowledgeable guides to make the experience more meaningful and giving you a newfound love of glaciers.

What to expect
This trip operates with a min. of 2 and a max. of 4 max. per guide.
We will meet at Freysnes Gas Station where you have the chance to use the bathroom and buy snacks, you'll follow us for a short drive to a glacier car park, where we'll get you equipped with the appropriate safety gear.
From the car park we'll take a short walk on a trail to the front of the glacier where we'll put on our equipment and go through safety instructions. Once on the glacier we'll walk through easy terrain to get you familiar with all the necessary techniques to progress throughout the trip.
Once familiar and confident with the equipment and their use, we'll begin to move through steeper and more adventurous terrain beyond the crowds. Here, you will see your guide at work, fixing anchors, fixing ropes and cutting steps to make your journey through these areas very safe.
Throughout the day you'll get many opportunities to take photos, learn about the natural history of Vatnajökull, Europe's most voluminous ice cap. More specifically, we love to talk about geology, glaciology, recent glacier changes and what the future looks like in a world of climate change.

Richard is a geology and adventure Guru! Our 8 mile round hike up the glacier and into the ice cave was coupled with learning everything there is to know about Icelands geographical history, its future and great humour. The route was certainly off the beaten track, avoiding all of the tourist regions. He communicated with us daily prior to our tour to ensure we knew what to expect with the weather and which glacier we would be hiking. Equipment was provided and safety was paramount. I would fully recommend booking any glacier tour with Ice Guardians!100% recommend this tour over any other glacier tour! You can’t beat a small tour group. Richard was an amazing guide. 100% recommend this tour over any other glacier tour! You can’t beat a small tour group. Richard was an amazing guide. Very knowledgeable and shared a lot of information about the surrounding environment, the glacier, and the wildlife in the area. Richard made us feel safe the entire time whilst still doing very adventurous stuff including some ice climbing!! Couldn’t recommend this tour enough to anyone it was truly a day we’ll never forget! Plus we even got hot drinks inside the ice cave!!The perfect tour ! Richard is an excellent guide, he catered to our abilities and went above and beyond to make our experience adventurous. Definitely a must do for anyone looking for something more than the standard short walk, worth every dollar.

Kish, you are the best. In January my girlfriend and I had the best experience in our lifetime, going on an ice glacier tour with Ice Guardians with our guide, Kish. Kish is very knowledgable about geography and loves to teach and answer every question you have about the glacier, Iceland, volcanos, climate change, anything. Him talking about various subjects about climate change and sharing his experience in Iceland makes you think and more aware about the current situation. Kish also loves exciting things, luckily for us, as we went climbing on ice and exploring ice caves. It was super exciting and kinda scary. However, Kish makes you feel safe. The best thing about the tour is we were with the two of us. Ice Guardians will not have groups over 5 people (I believe) as the fun and safety cannot be guaranteed. We were with another large company for another tour and felt like a number and part of a massive commercialised company, as with Ice Guardians you feel the complete opposite. Best of the best experience we have ever had, highly recommend this to everybodyWe had an amazing day with Ice Guardians - a real highlight of our trip!! We had an amazing day with Ice Guardians - a real highlight of our trip!! After our guide Kish gave us a couple of options the night before of which glacier to explore, we spent an incredible day on Breidamerkurjokull. Kish knew exactly where to take us to explore the features of the glacier. We saw the most beautiful ice caves, and walked across to the crevasse fields. Kish was constantly educating us on our surroundings - he knew so much about the landscape. He also took lots of photos of us which are some of our favourites from the trip. The adventure also involved a 4x4 track to get to and from the glacier, which was an awesome experience in itself. It won’t be long before we’re back to see Ice Guardians for another adventure in the future - we enjoyed it so much!!We had a full day with Richard, who was awesome guide for the trip. We had a full day with Richard, who was awesome guide for the trip. That hike was a highlight of my 8 months stay in Iceland, I am not experienced hiker but I was guided and led in very professional way by a person who definitely knows the spot and wanted to share some amazing places there - caves, waterfall and viewpoints. Time passed quick there, but I will have awesome memories for ages, definitely will be back for some more difficult hiking. Five stars!
