Our tour started when our guide Daryl picked us up at our hotel and from there we picked up a few other guests. We drove into the mountains and was given loads of information and history along the way. The whole day was super informative and involved! We saw a bunch of small towns, learned all about the Cretan people and tried some olive oil, honeys and raki, then went to a farm to try some cheeses and finally made our way to an authentic Greek lunch (where our dietary restrictions were easily met). We visited Zeus's cave where you have the option to hike to- or relax if you'd prefer not to hike. All in all the whole day was great and our guide was fantastic!! Would definitely recommend the tour to anyone!
This is a well diversified tour. You will visit an olive oil factory, small greek villages and sample Raki
and cheeses, travel on a dirt road and feed some goats on top of a gorgeous mountain, visit
the cave where Zeus was born followed by a delicious Greek lunch. Our guide Marios even told us about a Greek festival in Malia which was great. My three children rated it 5 stars ! You could
never duplicate this on your own period.
We are so glad we took this tour. It got us out of the City and let us see the beautiful countryside of Crete. Trips to the goat herders in the mountains, beautiful small towns with exquisite olive oil and honey, a hike up to Zeus’ cave and lunch at Zorba’s Taverna with the freshest Greek salad I have ever tasted! Our guide was thoroughly entertaining and the whole day was a pure joy!
Well organized tour. Great value at tentative to all needs of clients. Would highly recommed to anyone.
Darrell the guide was absolutely brilliant! So, so knowledgeable about the island and its history. Really took the time to explore and explain the details of what/ where you looked my at which made the whole trip so much more interesting. The scenery and the culture were also incredible. Really recommend folks!
This was a.great day out. Really good value for money. Spectacular views and lot of information about the area. Special to visit small villages.
Our tour guide Ruud picked us up from hotel Mitis Rinela early morning in a great land rover. He made a stop at another hotel for our fellow tourists. The tour took us across the island to the plateau and stopped off at a few sites including the fabled birthplace or Zeus, an impressive cave I recommend the 10minute walk uphill for. The cave itself has steep steps but is open and not claustrophobic. There is a cost of 6 euro entry. We also visited a local village taverna tasting home made olive oil and raki. A local farm (very dirty and covered in goat poo so wear old trainers) to see how they make cheese and more raki. We drove high up the mountains and off road. Great fun but the car does sway a fair bit so if you get easily travel sick I would think twice. Our guide Ruud was extremely knowledgeable and informed us of sites and legends,he also had a great sense of humour. He then drove us to lunch at another village taverna where we had an ok meal. Everything bar the cave entry was included in the booking price.
I would recommend this tour to anyone, wear sensible shoes you don't mind getting dirty though. Feels like a proper adventure and the vistas are beautiful.
Simon was a friendly and informative guide who shared his love of Crete with us. We did the tour after arriving on the overnight ferry and it was a great way to get acquainted with the island, people and traditions!
The Guide was hilarious and had great knowledge of he island and it’s history. Zeus Birth place was amazing to see. The food on the tour was delicious. From the Canadians.
We had a great time on this tour! Our guide, Geoff, was early picking us up from the hotel. His knowledge of Crete is vast. Geoff loves Crete very much and this shines through as he shared so many facts throughout the day. The stops were all very lovely. We had the opportunity to purchase items from different villages but felt no pressure at all to make purchases. Lunch (which was included) was delicious. My only recommendation would be to bring a bottle of water with. Thank you, Geoff, for an awesome day!
This was such a highlight of our few days in Crete! Stelios is so incredibly knowledgeable and willing to share everything he knows about his home! The tour took us to some amazing places and we met some great people and goats! The mountains of Crete are so beautiful and the lunch they provide was delicious! I would recommend this tour to everyone!
What a wonderful, fun was to see the mountain area of Crete. We learned so much about the history of Crete, it's culture, customs and agriculture. Our guide was very enthusiastic. You could tell he loves his country. We loved exploring the small villages and Zeus' cave. The lunch was super yummy and there were plenty of options for my daughters who have to eat a strict gluten free diet. The tour was a highlight of our time on Crete.
I had a personal day to travel around Crete so I had to make the most of my time, and this tour delivered! Our guide was Darrell, an Englishman by birth but a Cretan in heart and soul. He kept every moment entertaining and shared his passion for the island and it’s people and history. Highlights of the tour included the Lasithi Plateau, breadbasket of Crete, the Cave of Zeus, where I’m glad I listened to his advice (up the hard side, down the easy side), and being introduced to many of Crete’s flora and fauna. The rare gem of the day was seeing an endangered bearded vulture (Lämmergeier) along with native griffon vultures. Afterwards I had enough time to enjoy the Heraklion city center and port on my own. I thoroughly enjoyed this tour and am glad I had a chance to meet Darrell and be introduced to this wonderful island.
First time to Crete, we decided to do the full day Safari tour. It was a great choice. Our guide, Daryl, was grea. Good command of the English language, funny and very helpful. The tour was well organized and full of activities. This is an off road safari in a Land Rover that is designed for that, this is not a luxury trip, so be prepared to sit in in tight seats, especially the very back of the car that seats 4, 2x2 setup. The trip will include high climb in very narrow and torturous in paved roads, so it’s not fo the light hearted or those who are looking for a luxury trip. The lunch was included and was very good
All together it was a really fun trip that shared by 8 people for 8 hours. My 14 and 16 year old kids absolutely loved it.
This tour was the best one we took during our entire Greek vacation. Simon, our driver, was knowledgeable, very entertaining, and most importantly a safe driver. There were plenty of stops throughout this tour which were enjoyable for all members of our group, including the children. The lunch stop was perfect and the tour operator did a great job making sure my daughter received a meal that was both safe and tasty for her she has a gluten allergy. We noted the food allergy when we booked the tour. In addition to visiting various sites in Crete, there are a few stops to sample olive oil, honey, and Raki alcohol with opportunities to purchase them from the local vendors. I highly recommend this tour if you are visiting Crete.
This is an excellent tour! My friend and I booked this tour and Daryl was our driver/guide. He was extremely knowledgeable, funny and helpful. We saw sites we never would have seen on Crete without going on an off road tour. Everywhere we stopped, people were so friendly and welcoming. The mountains and views were truly amazing! Highly recommend this tour if you're in Crete!
We loved this excursion. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and hilarious. There was a bit of confusion because we had booked the tour where we were supposed to go to a farm and have fresh cheese and such. The tour we actually got went through the mountains, stopped in Spili and went to Preveli.
This was one of the highlights of our Greek adventure. Our guide Darryl was fantastic! A Brit expat who has an endless knowledge of Crete, wonderful driver who makes sure everyone is comfortable, safe and havivg fun. He is funny and knowledgeable. The adventure was great. We saw Crete up close and personable. Visited a couple Tavernas, one for morning coffee and one for a great lunch. The travel thru the mountains was memorable and visiting the goat herder and his traditional cheese making farm was awesome. The tour was exactly what we had hoped for and more. Daryl was a big part of this.
We had a wonderful day!
The tour was very fun, our guide was excellent, we learned a lot about Crete!!!
This was an amazing excursion. I would recommend everyone take this tour because it gives you a different perspective of Greece. Our driver Darryl was very informative and took his time explaining every detail to us. He is also very nice and we had a great time with him.
This was the highlight of our time in Crete! Our tour guide was friendly, funny, and very knowledgable. We learned SO much and also had such a blast! My only complaint is that the tour said there was breakfast and lunch included. Luckily, my husband and I ate breakfast at our hotel before the land rover picked us up, because we would've starved if we hadn't-- we were never served breakfast! We did, though, have a yummy lunch about halfway through the tour.
The tour was great. Our tour guide Jason went above and beyond. We learned a lot about Crete and its history. We had two little kids ages 10 and 4 and had concerns that the kids would not handle well such a long day, but because the tour was so well organized they had no problems. We highly recommend this tour.
Our tour guide did not disappoint in sharing his knowledge and love of Crete. We learned about history, geography, and traditions. We took our 15-year old twins and their friends and they weren't bored for one second because the tour moved along so well.
This was a great Safari tour around a part of Crete you might miss on your own. Over half was off road, but safe, visiting very old Cretan villages, some with a population of only 100, seeing spectacular views of the island, and seeing some ancient ruins. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable and his love of Crete was infectious. The trip included an excellent lunch, plus some olive oil and cheese tasting.
Excellent tour and highly recommend. Jason was great! If it wasn't for this tour we would have only seen our hotel resort. Instead, we saw the island of Crete and Jason filled us in about the history and people of today. Thank you!
We had a great day on the Landrover Safari seeing places that we wouldn't have seen any other way. Some of the dirt roads were pretty rough but the spectacular views and places we visited were worth it. The stops were great - the olive oil and raki tasting was fun and the lunch was plentiful and delicious. The other stops were historically very interesting. Both Kostas and Jason were terrific guides who provided a lot of history, stories, and fun. I would highly recommend this tour!
An excellent day out, Jason our driver was great. Very informative, loads of information about the island the locations and the history of crete. Made a real change from the typical tourist activities, would definitely recommend.
This is the trip to take on Crete to see more than just the port area. Our driver/guide was excellent and engaging with a thorough knowledge of the island. Lots of alcohol was included in the price. The meal was very good and visiting the goat farm and tasting goat cheese was wonderful. Many steps at the cave of Zeus but there was a place to stay if you didn't want to visit it.
Marinos was the best! The tour was a welcome change from more typical tourist venues and while described accurately on the internet it was a whole lot more fun than we expected!
