One of the most historical sites that we have seen along the way to Erg Chigaga desert. It really worth visit and listed under UNESCO since 1987. If you would like to learn previous Moroccan history, this place is a good example.

Family of 3 couples & a young granddaughter visited Marrakech in November 2019. Hired a taxi from hotel for a day trip to heritage site consisting of a group of dwellings made out of Saharan earthen clay. The small village is surrounded by high defensive walls & a river . There is a mosque also. There are 4 corner observation towers which are obviously not in use. The villagers sell hand crafted wares to tourists.People & a local guide we hired were very helpful.About 20 movies have been filmed at this location including The Jewel Of The Nile & Gladiator. The village is located at the foothills of high Atlas mountain range. We had our lunch across the river at a small restaurant named LABARAKA AUBERGE The food was served hot consisting of bread rolls, soup & minced meat (kheema) with fried eggs spread over. There are many other attractions nearby including Hollywood film studios where movie sets are kept. We would recommend a visitValue for money was quite poor, especially compared to other amazing trips around Marrakech. Value for money was quite poor, especially compared to other amazing trips around Marrakech. There were a lot of extra costs, we were sent to a heavily touristic restaurant, that served pizza (while we were hoping for a traditional, authentic place). Aid benbaddou is a beautiful city to see and the guide (that we also had to pay extra) was nice. Another downer was the visit at the Filmstudio of Ouarzazate. We didn’t get to see the city itself at all, instead we were sent to the studio on our own, and the only thing that was shown there (again for extra money) was old, damaged film sets from decades ago. Overall, in my mind it was not an enjoyable trip at all, especially regarding the fact that your drive from Marrakech is more than 5 hours. JanuaryFeel in love with this Amazing Place and Friendly people and you will have good chance to visit some houses in the old part of this village

This beautiful small walled village is home to many films and TV. Well worth the side trip to stop and discover it - You need to cross the river on foot, up through the village gate which requires a hike to the top for the best views. This was one of the highlights I was looking forward to on the tour and it did not disappoint. I hope to visit it again some day. Highly recommended.
