Join us for an interesting morning walking tour that will dive you into the history, the art and also the food culture of our fascinating city. This experience is a perfect introduction to the city that you will discover from different points of view. We look forward to letting you experience a chill-out tour seen from a local perspective.

What to expect
Stop At: Mura di Lucca, Porta san Donato, Via delle Mura Urbane, 55100 Lucca LU, Italy
Our foodie experience starts at the train station and in a few steps, we’ll reach the outstanding walls: here your guide will introduce you to Lucca, its history and its people. We will rise till the top of the fortification and we will enjoy a short stroll on the popular pedestrian promenade: You can admire gorgeous urban vistas of the historic centre and the surrounding landscapes, listening to interesting stories and funny anecdotes under the shade of ancient trees.

Stop At: Lucca, Lucca, Province of Lucca, Tuscany
After a pleasant walk we’ll need to relax and taste the first Lucca-style breakfast in a glamorous pastry shop! You will discover the delicious taste of our cakes, biscuits and sweets paired with an Italian espresso or cappuccino (in certain times of the year, breakfast can be replaced by gelato as a final stop). You will learn about Italian breakfast or gelato traditions and the importance we give to this ritual moment of the day.

Stop At: Lucca's Duomo (Cattedrale di San Martino), Piazza San Martino, Lucca Italy
With the caffeine and sugar fuelling us we will head towards the main religious square to admire the majestic Cathedral dedicated to San Martino that is a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture you can't miss.
Duration: 15 minutes
Stop At: San Michele in Foro, Piazza San Michele, 55100, Lucca Italy
The walk will lead us towards the most popular location: San Michele square where locals usually meet for a coffee and a chat. Here you’ll have the chance to discover famous sights as well as hidden corners and to learn about food traditions inside local shops with friendly vendors always available for a word. We’ll also pass by the birthplace of our most famous historic figure Giacomo Puccini, the great opera composer well-known worldwide.

Stop At: Via Fillungo, Lucca Italy
Your stroll continues along the main shopping street in Lucca, characterised by medieval palaces and artisan stores: you can admire old shop signs that are very elegant and represent the trade tradition of the city. In the middle of the itinerary, we’ll stop to have a view of the basilica of San Frediano: the locals’ beloved church.

Stop At: Piazza Anfiteatro, Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, Lucca Italy
Our next and last stop will be in the most curious place in the city: the bustling Piazza dell'Anfiteatro where we’ll finally sit down and delight ourselves with a delicious light lunch that includes typical salami and pecorino from Garfagnana, and of course, we will toast with a local wine against the backdrop of this ancient and fascinating place.

While planning our trip to Lucca, my husband and I looked for a food tour to start our month-long stay. We found this tour on Viator and made the booking. I am so glad we started off our stay this way. The small size of our group (my brother, his girlfriend, my husband, me and one other very congenial person comprised the entire group) made things very personal. Our tour guide, Chiara, was very friendly and we found out we had descended from families originating in Belluno. Chiara was not only very friendly, but knowledgeable and able to answer any questions we had. The tour started at the Taxi stand in front of the train station, proceeded across the street to a map where we were introduced to the walls, the layout and the founding history of Lucca. We then proceeded to climb the ramp to the wall where Chiara spoke about the whys and ways the walls were constructed and used. The tour then continued into the small streets and alleys of Lucca with detailed commentary about the history of all the main parts of Lucca. And, of course, we stopped along the way to sample a typical Italian breakfast of sweets and coffee at a local café/bar and while in the Anfiteatro sampled drinks and a mixed meat and cheese board with bread. Both were delicious. Chiara not only told us about history but also present-day Italian culture, highlighting the local Lucca customs. I highly recommend this tour over the larger, possibly less expensive mob tours you will see. Well worth the little extra cost and a well-deserved five stars.Melissa M

This is an amazing tour! Our guide, Sara, was very knowledgeable with lots of interesting pieces of historical information. She speaks good English and really enjoys sharing her city with others, and is happy to answer any questions, so we really enjoyed our time with her. She showed us the sights, but also introduced us to the little shops tucked away off the beaten track and we were able to taste local delicacies. All food and wine was included and Sara knew all the cafe staff personally so we felt more like we were visiting her family than eating at a restaurant. My husband has walking difficulties but we were able to go at our own pace, and enjoy the beautiful buildings with plenty of stops along the way. A great way to explore Lucca!eugb_13

The pre-experience communication was excellent and the Sara was waiting and ready on time at meeting point at Lucca Station. I learned much about the city's long history from her as we walked amongst its walls and was presented many tasty and unique dishes specific to the city.
