Evening Tokyo Walking Food Tour of Shimbashi
Overview
We begin our tour by entering the chasm of eateries overrun on a nightly basis by the working class of Japan. Then we will stop for local bites and an introduction to drinking and dining culture in Tokyo, and then continue to wind our way to head to another spot that specializes in Oden, a standard of Japanese home-cooking that just cannot be missed.
Then you will get to try Yakitori- world-famous Japanese meat and veggie BBQ skewers grilled over charcoal in a classic "Under the Tracks" restaurant. After, you will have a chance to indulge in a savory bowl of RAMEN. We will show you how to order, what the basics are, and help you practice your SLURPING techniques! Finally taste a special traditional dessert, where you will have the opportunity to watch this being cooked in front of you.

My wife and I went on this food tour on one of our last nights in Tokyo. Our guide Lora was brilliant, teaching us a bit about the culture and amusing us with anecdotes. Despite being in Japan for almost 2 weeks (and going on other food tours) we were still taken to try even more new and delicious food. If you're even a slightly adventurous eater, food tours are a brilliant way of spending an evening with nice people and experiencing a little bit of the local way of life, all the while trying some tasty delicacies. We always include at least one on a holiday, and our Arigato food tour was certainly one of the best.Satochisan was very informative and took us to these very interesting places where mostly locals go. He spoke clear English and is very knowledgeable of the food culture and scene. I would recommend this tour to anybody who wants to see a different side of Tokyo.

My husband and I had a special evening full of surprises and new taste sensations with the lively and enthusiastic Marc as our guide. I chose this tour because we are Japanese Americans and have eaten a lot of Japanese food. We didn’t need to be introduced to sushi, yakitori, teriyaki, mochi or ramen. We are i. Japan so we want to try different Japanese foods! And we didn’t want to go to the same old places all tourists go either! It was so interesting to hang out with the salarymen. Marc shared all his favorite little haunts and everything we drank and ate was delicious and unique! He is highly entertaining and we shared a lot of laughs! Just one other couple joined us on our nonstop adventures. Along the way, Marc shared all kinds of historical and social/cultural insights he has gained from years living in the Shimbashi area. I didn’t feel at all rushed. It was like eating with 3 new friends. Delightful. We stopped at at least five different places finishing with a complete entree! Marc sent us off with some fresh Japanese pastries to enjoy later. We were too stuffed at that point. Afterwards he shared a fun video he made of our evening. What a guy! I don’t want to give away Marc’s secrets so I only included a picture of one actual dish we enjoyed. Curious? Sign up!Great experience trying out a range of fabulous Japanese food experiences, along with saké tasting. Really good choice of venues - living and friendly. Maya was an excellent and really fun guide for us.
