We did the half day (evening) bamboo weaving and cooking class. All in all the most amazing experience! We get picked up at our hotel and brought to a beautiful house were we get drinks and learn about bamboos importance and all the products which can be produced sustainabily from it. The we move on to a weaving class with a master weaver from the village. Then we cook and eat the most amazing dinner and end off with a Hmong musical performance. What a wonderful experience, I learned a lot about the Laos culture and I enjoyed every minute. I learned about bamboo and its countless uses, separated the sticky rice from its husks, weaved a little coaster and helped to prepare a delicious home made meal in a very clean kitchen. To finish, I was delighted by the sound of a typical Laos wind instrument played by a monk. I was given the opportunity to play this instrument to the amusement of my host ! All in all, am unforgettable experience which should not be missed. My host was very polite and his english was excellent. I thoroughly recommend this experience to every visitor to Luang Prabang !!It was a very authentic experience. Out into the edges of the jungle to a family set up. We got a lot of food too it was great value for money, no need to eat before coming. The bamboo weaving was really interesting and made us really appreciate the artistry and hard work that goes into everything they make. Also was a musical performance at the end which was a great peak into another aspect of Laos culture. Would say this is a definite must do for Luang Prabang. We had a great experience learning about the different uses of bamboo in Laos. A true cultural emersion experience. The evening started with learning about the uses of bamboo in the present day as it had been for centuries for fish traps, baskets, housing chickens as well as building houses. We were given an opportunity to try our hand at weaving and also using a cross bow (also still used today for hunting small animals) and separating rice from the husks. Hands on cooking class in which we prepared delicious food including young tender bamboo appetizers. The entire dinner was SO delicious and prepared in a carefully sanitary condition to accommodate all diets. The evening ended with an extraordinary musical performance with a unique Lao instrument. A truly magical and memorable evening. It is so much more than just a weaving and cooking class. The name does not tell the full story. We highly recommend it.Amazing experience that supports a culturesentric and local employment, tourism industry. Wonderful and heartwarming.
