She shared how the city grew from just 750 residents in the 1800's to the populous it is today due largely to Henry Plant's railroad, phosphate and the cigar industry from Cuba. Lots of crime in the early 1900's. Times were hard for the Seminole Indians who were forced out of Tampa Bay after years of fighting with the military. Beautiful architectural buildings to see on the walking tour. The beautiful Sacred Heart Catholic Church built in 1905, the Henry Plant Museum, the Tampa Bay Hotel and nearby River Walk with lots of shopping and dining. Ybor City nearby. This walking tour was average. I was the only one on the tour which was somewhat awkward. Elizabeth was friendly & knowledgeable about Tampa history. She did struggle with names of individuals during her story telling. It lasted 60 minutes and was a casual pace.
