I visited Transylvania the over the Catholic Easter and did a few day trips to explore the region. Firstly I was not looking for a private tour and would have preferred to do a tour with a small group. The operating model generally in Transylvania is private tours where the prices are rather expensive. For me this is not an affordability issue but rather value for money. I travel extensively thus have plenty of experience to draw on. Interestingly I got talking to 3 other people who also visited the castle - in the end on their own as they too felt the cost was too expensive but would have been keen to join up with small tour! I decided to catch bus to Brasnov to reduce costs which was easy enough and this then made the price more reasonable. Having said that what I believed I had arranged was a tour to Bran castle, Rasnov fortress and city tour of town Brasnov. I was driven to the castle and the fortress on the way back but that was it. The gentleman who ran the tour (which was not Florin) was pleasant enough but he had no local knowledge or history of the region, the castle or the fortress. Thus what I got was a driver not a tour which was not my aim as I could have just caught the bus myself to the castle or taken Uber. There was no city tour - not sure if there was some confusion here but my email request was clear. I decided not to pursue with the driver as I assume he would have no knowledge of the sights in town either. Instead I did free walking tour which was brilliant and vastly more cost effective. Florin seems to get good reviews and positive feedback regards his knowledge. It was a shame I did not experience this myself. I understand he is presently unable to drive so may want to confirm who is actually running the tour. On my experience would definitely not recommendI contacted Florin through his website based on the excellent feedback of other travellers. He did not disappoint. I contacted Florin through his website based on the excellent feedback of other travellers. He did not disappoint. Communication was efficient and helpful in planning our trip to Transylvania in advance and Florin arrived punctually at our accommodation in Brasov as promised. We found him a good driver, with a comfortable car and we felt very safe as he took us many miles on 2 days of trips. Florin is very experienced as a guide and is very knowledgeable and informative, telling us many relevant facts as we travelled and pointing out interesting sights enroute (with occasional photo stops) as well as expertly guiding us around the towns/sights we visited. When visiting towns (Sibiu and Sighisoara), Florin first took us around and told us about the town and then gave us free time to explore, we just came back to meet him when we finished. This worked very well as we had flexibility to spend time in things that interested us but didn't have to worry about missing anything and knew we'd be well looked after whenever we were ready to move on. We thought his prices were very reasonable for the trips and service provided and Florin was very fair and honest. Brasov was an excellent, and very attractive base, with good and very keenly priced accommodation and restaurants. Transylvania is a most beautiful part of the world with many things to explore but it would be difficult to navigate the sights on public transport. We would thoroughly recommend staying in Brasov and booking day trips through Florin to explore this beautiful region. As other reviewers have noted, Florin Ivan runs 'Brasov Day Trips' ([email protected]) - there are other tours with similar names He is a very reliable and knowledgeable guide and an excellent driver. As other reviewers have noted, Florin Ivan runs 'Brasov Day Trips' ([email protected]) - there are other tours with similar names He is a very reliable and knowledgeable guide and an excellent driver. Florin met me at Bucharest airport on a Wednesday in April 2016 and drove me to Brasov, a lovely, interesting, characterful town in Transylvania. On the Thursday I hired him again to take me on the 3 castles tour - Bran, Peles, Rasnov- it was fantastic. Florin Ivan is passionate about Romania in general and about the Brasov area in particular. He is great company with an in depth history at his fingertips. If I had had more in this beautiful part of Romania, I would definitely have hired him to take me further afield. Good value, honest, reliable - very highly recommended. Steve (UK)
