First I need to say that the tour we did was a two day privately booked group excursion taken from our cruise ship docked in Safaga, Egypt. There were 26 of us on the tour, split into two groups, each in a 21 seater minibus and each with our own guide as well as a driver. Your Egypt Tours (YET) picked us up at 8:30am from the dockside. Our guide was called Ash and he was excellent. From Safaga we drove to Luxor. It’s a long drive, especially the last 40kms which is all in the Nile valley where the road has ‘speed bumps’ at the cross road to every village (of which there are many). We had a comfort stop about half-way and arrived at a hotel at about 1:30/2:00pm, where we had a buffet lunch. From there we went to the Temple of Karnak, then to the Temple of Luxor. These are both amazing, and Ash’s commentary was really helpful in understanding the history of the temples. After that we went for an hour’s felucca ride on the Nile to see the sunset over the river. We were then taken to our hotel for the night, The Steigenberger. It was a very nice 5 star hotel on the banks of the Nile. Our room was lovely, with an internal balcony overlooking the courtyard. We has a quick meal in their Italian restaurant, by the swimming pool, which was very good, and very reasonable (£24 for two pasta dishes and four glasses of house wine). We were then picked up to go to the Light & Sound Show at Karnak Temple. I loved the event, especially the words spoken by Judi Dench and other well known actors, but my husband found it boring. The next morning we were picked up and taken to the Valley of the Kings on the left bank of the Nile. Our guide suggested which 3 tombs we should see and told us what to look out for, although he wasn’t allowed to come in to the tombs with us. We also paid extra to see King Tutenkamen’s tomb(100egp - £4) and King Seti's tomb (1000egp - £40). Both were well worth the money. King Tut’s tomb includes his mummy & sarcophagus, whilst the painting in King Seti’s tomb is amazing - unbelievably fresh and vibrant. From here we went to see Queen Hapsheput’s temple, calling at an alabaster carving workshop en route. From there we went to see the Colossi of Memnon, before going to a restaurant for lunch, which was lovely, mainly local foods. From there we took the long journey home. If this sounds a lot to pack into 2 days it certainly was! Everything worked well, Ash was very interesting and very helpful - for instance he helped us to find and use an ATM to get the egp we needed to pay for the extra 2 tombs. I can’t recommend YET enough, they were superb!!Elena D

CONSIGLIATISSIMO!
