Paleokastritsa is located on the NW coast of Corfu, from Corfu town. The resort is hilly and nestles beneath the folds of steep verdant slopes of olive groves and citrus orchards. It is one of the most beautiful seasides of Corfu Island and considered by the locals the mythical petrified ship of Ulysses. The crystal clear waters and the surrounding caves have made the area one of the most popular sites for swimming and snorkelling. The historic monastery of Palaiokastritsa with the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary can be seen at the top of the hill of the peninsula.

Achilleion is a palace built for the Empress Elisabeth of Austria, also known as Sisi. It is located about 10 km south of the city of Corfu and provides a panoramic view of the city to the north, and across the whole southern part of the island to the Ionian Sea. The architectural style was designed to suggest an ancient palace of mythical Phaeacia. The motif center on the hero Achilles of Greek mythology, from which the name is derived. Corfu was Elisabeth's favourite vacation destination and she wanted a palace to gratify her admiration for Greece, its language and its culture. Vlacherna Monastery is an iconic point of the island and one of the most famous and photographed places on Corfu. The name Vlacherna originates from the large monastery located in Turkey. It is connected to the mainland by a pedestrian bridge with a short walk to the Monastery. The Monastery of Vlacherna is distinguished by its unusual shaped, tiled roof and intense white walls that sharply contrast with the lush landscape and the brilliant blue of the sea. In the small church of the Monastery, you will be able to worship the icon of the Virgin Mary, “Lady of Vlacherna”.

Mouse Island and the monastery of Virgin Mary Vlacherna are the most famous and photographed landmarks of Corfu. A narrow bridge connects the Island with the picturesque monastery constructed in the 17th century. Usually, you can see an aeroplane landing and taking off from this spot, as the airport of Corfu is right next to the church.

Pass By: Mon Repos Palace, Analipsis Hill, Corfu Town Greece

Mon Repos Palace is situated on top of Analipsis hill, near Kanoni area, in the middle of a beautiful setting full of greenery. It was built in 1826 by the British Commissioner Frederic Adams as a gift to his Corfiot wife, Nina Palatianou. It is a small but very beautiful palace with colonial architectural elements.Later on, the palace became the summer residence of all British governors of Corfu and when the Ionian Islands were united to Greece, in 1864, it was given as a gift to King George I of Greece. This is also the house where Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, the husband of Queen Elisabeth II, was born into on June, 10th 1921.

We will visit the church of Saint Spiridon, the patron saint of the Island and a miracle worker. It was erected during the 16th century and the architecture of the church is typical of the Venetian architecture. It' s bell tower is the highest spot of the town that is seen all over the Old Town of Corfu. The locals have deep faith in Agios Spiridon, who is considered the keeper of the island. Inside the Church of Saint Spiridon is a crypt, where his relics are kept in a double sarcophagus.
