What to expect
The tour begins in the courtyard next to the beautiful garden of the Probona Distillery where you will have the opportunity to taste local citrus products and liqueurs, along with a selection of appetisers.
A chance to taste various kinds of citrus fruit and traditional Naxian marzipan, covered in smooth, dark chocolate, citron- flavoured "halvadopita" and dried citrus fruit. Naxian ouzo, a must for any lover of all things Greek, can also be enjoyed with olives, bread sticks, a different kind of "ntakos" and a wide variety of our own fruit preserves.For those with a taste for the traditional, local "Rakomelo" and citron-flavoured raki will also be served with Naxian figs and nuts.
Both tour and citron tasting last 60 minutes.

We booked the 10am citron tasting tour with Sofia on our first full day on Naxos and it was the perfect way to shift our speed from the bustle of Athens to truly begin our honeymoon in the Cyclades. This was down to the beautiful surroundings of the Citron grove, the delicious drinks and the incredible, accommodating Sofia. Sofia, firstly, certainly made the price easily worth it with the generous sampling of a wide range of drinks paired with delicious local snacks. Secondly, her good humor made it easy to get to know the other couple on our particular tour. She was a perfect drinking companion to all and a total workaholic. She does several tours a day, sharing with each guest the story of her family, the botany behind the Citron tree and the art and science of the distillery process! Deserving of mention as well is Kristalena who assists in serving each course of food and drink and who keeps the schedule on track! After our tour, we were invited to come to their storefront in Chora (50-100m from the ferry port exit) at any point during our stay on the island. Here we were greeted with the same hospitality. Sofia's family kindly gave us recommendations for excellent stops along the inland roads. Her mother briefly stood in for our own and reminded us to drive carefully. In summary, we can't imagine our time in Naxos without Promponas Distillery and the tour was the perfect place to start! If you aren't booked yet upon your arrival, visit the storefront and I'm sure they will show you the same accommodation complete with a quick wit and positive energy.This was one of my best experiences throughout my time in Greece! Sofia is so much fun and an excellent host. I learned a lot and enjoyed trying all of the different products they make.
