Learn how this large pre-Colombian city played an important role in Mayan civilization from around A.D. 600 to 1200, and remained a center of worship and pilgrimage until the arrival of the Spanish. Even today, it is still considered a sacred site by the Yucatán peninsula’s Maya population.
Like many of ancient Mexico’s cities, the site was abandoned, and its ruins were hidden by jungle. Hear how the site was discovered and unearthed by archaeologists, gaining UNESCO protection and considered today one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Pick-up and drop-off was great and on time. The tour guide, Marco, was knowledgeable, engaging, and charismatic during the brief time we were at Chichen Itza (only 2 hours). Unfortunately, these characteristics also led to a false sense of trust so beware. He is a hustler who is only out to get the most money out of you. He overcharged us for our entrance ticket and did not allow us to purchase our own tickets at the gates and conveniently had no change if you had a large bill (as was my case). Our printed tickets had a completely different price from what he quoted us and he kept the difference (about 80 pesos less per person). He discouraged and rushed us from buying anything from the vendors at Chichen Itza. Marco encouraged us to not buy souvenirs at Chichen Itza and instead from the “real Mayans” he wanted us to at the store at Chichikan (where the Cenato is located). He obviously gets a cut from any and every store there. The hustle begins with the “healer” at the entrance where he encourages you to buy obsidian and continues from there at their only souvenir shop (where prices are 4 times what they were at Chichen Itza). Ultimately, we were rushed to get to this location and weren’t allowed to explore or shops at Chichen Itza from local vendors because he did not get a cut from them. The Cenato is not worth it and a complete tourist trap. The “tequila tasting” was a joke. Marco mentioned how great of a deal it was to buy their overpriced tequila at around $100+ USD after having 1/4 of “shots.” The buffet was garbage and had 0 protein options, it was all carbs (rice, tortillas, chips, pasta, etc). Read back at older reviews buried with the positive ones. Some people are blinded by Marco’s charisma and warmth (the true nature of a hustler).Enjoyable day. Our guide, Marco, was very engaging and knowledgeable. Thankful I chose "early access" tour with hotel pickup. We beat the crowds and the heat. Learned so much! Would recommend to friends. The buffet/cenote/cultural center we went to later was low key and relaxing.

This tour was really fun. You see and learn a lot, and have a fun moment at the Cenote. Marco, our tour guide was great! You can tell he likes his job and really enjoys teaching you about the ruins and culture. Highly recommend going on this tour!! Some tips, be sure to bring water and either bring snacks or eat breakfast before you go. Lunch is provided but it's later in the day and drinks are extra. You should know going in that it's a long day, they picked us up at 5am from our hotel and we didn't get back until 6 or 7. Also, you're outside all day so I would recommend bringing sunscreen and wearing comfortable shoes. This is a must-do! Our guide Marco was so knowledgeable and made the experience that much better. Highly recommend. Take plenty of water, sunscreen and cash for drinks as the lunch place did not accept credit cards.

Our tour guide was wonderful and shared amazing history and culture of the Mayan people and intricate details of the Chichen Itza ruins. Clean comfy bus. The buffet was poor but everything else was great.
