Our tour guide Marc was incredibly knowledgeable about the wines of the two houses we visited, Tavel and Olgier. He had a very accessible way of explaining the process of smelling, tasting, and thinking about the wine we tried. It was informative and interesting.

I find it hard to recommend this tour. We did go to a Tavel vineyard, and try 4 generous wines - all which were great. Then we did a tour of a vineyard in Chateauneuf-de-Pape and tried their wines. However I thought our guide was a bit arrogant and I didnt learn as much about French wines as I thought it would on the tour. Its worth nothing that the vineyard in Chateauneuf on this tour is the same vineyard you go to one Le Grand Tour of Provence trip. I did both trips in two days, so that was disappointing - and I was surprised that wasn't raised with me when I rang Provence Reservation to confirm my bookings. I'd definitely choose Le Grand Tour over this one. Also, given the price of this tour I think I would have rather gone to a nice restaurant and tried a bunch of wines there. You can also get a train direct from Avignon to Chateauneuf de Pape where there are lots of cellars you can walk into and do tastings, which may be worth considering.

We then had lunch at Beaumes de Venise but unfortunately the market was not open. We then travelled back to Avignon to drop off people and to pick up others before going to Tavel and Chateau neuf de pape. The wines were good and the chat was good. There was no olive oil tasting though. This wine tour is highly recommended. This wine tour is highly recommended. A group of four, we met the van at the Hotel de Ville in the early afternoon and took off in air-conditioned comfort for our first stop at Tavel where specialty rosés are produced. The wine of Tavel is very good - we tasted three very nice rosés and were able to purchase a bottle for a very reasonable price. From there we stopped to enjoy the scenery on the way to Chateauneuf du Pape which was magical. The view of the Rhone Valley has to be seen to be believed and viewing the remains of the papal summer palace was awe inspiring - although it's only now a facade due to damage during several wars, it is huge. After taking photos we were on our way to the second winery. The Chateauneuf du Pape winery tour consisted of a very thorough tour and information about the wine making process, learning about the grapes, the regions the oakiness of the barrels and so on. The guide was very knowledgeable on the topics. The only downside I would say was that of the three tastings, all wines were very expensive and well out of the price range of your ordinary quaffer. I would suggest it may be better to offer samples of wines across the price range rather than concentrate on the top shelf. We did however purchase two bottles at a good price point that I'm sure will be good. Our guide Laure, was fabulous. Do this tour if you are in Avignon - well worth it!This tour exceeded my expectations. Our guide, Jeremy, was so knowledgeable about the different kinds of grapes and the varieties of wine. This tour exceeded my expectations. Our guide, Jeremy, was so knowledgeable about the different kinds of grapes and the varieties of wine. He picked us up in a comfortable, air-conditioned van, and was our personal guide for the first stop, the Tavel winery. Then we drove to Chateauneuf-du-Pape where we were able to tour inside the winery itself, with a guide from the winery. Jeremy even brought us to a castle on the way, because we had extra time, which was an added bonus. This was an excellent tour and we recommend it to everyone.
Amazing experience, excellent tour and especially the guide. Highly recommended!
